{"id":6418,"date":"2026-07-05T11:29:53","date_gmt":"2026-07-05T08:29:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hu.edu.ye\/en\/?p=6418"},"modified":"2026-07-16T11:46:32","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T08:46:32","slug":"hadhramout-university-and-the-united-nations-discuss-strengthening-water-security-and-addressing-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hu.edu.ye\/en\/details\/6418\/","title":{"rendered":"Hadhramout University and the United Nations Discuss Strengthening Water Security and Addressing Climate Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The President of Hadhramout University, <strong>Prof. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Khanbash<\/strong>, met this morning in his office with a delegation from the <strong>United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)<\/strong> headed by <strong>Ms. Lina Al\u2011Safi<\/strong>, Coordinator of the Water Management and Irrigation Improvement Project in Yemen, to discuss ways of enhancing <strong>water security<\/strong> and reducing <strong>flood risks<\/strong> in light of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting addressed the objectives and activities of the <strong>\u201cImproving Water and Irrigation Management for Sustainability and Efficiency in Yemen (IWISE)\u201d<\/strong> project, funded by the <strong>World Bank<\/strong> and implemented jointly by <strong>UNDP<\/strong> and the <strong>United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The project primarily focuses on strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities to climate change in the <strong>Aden\u2013Tuban Basin<\/strong> and <strong>Wadi Hajar in Hadhramout<\/strong>, contributing to improved irrigation water management and the promotion of environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, the University President highlighted the role of Hadhramout University\u2019s research centers and the scientific and applied studies they provide in the service of the community and sustainable development.
