{"id":243,"date":"2025-06-18T07:35:40","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T07:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hu.edu.ye\/eswrc\/en\/?p=243"},"modified":"2025-11-04T07:39:55","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T07:39:55","slug":"the-center-for-environmental-studies-and-water-resources-at-hadhramout-university-participates-in-the-enabling-environment-studies-workshop-in-wadi-hajar-with-international-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hu.edu.ye\/eswrc\/en\/details\/243\/","title":{"rendered":"The Center for Environmental Studies and Water Resources at Hadhramout University Participates in the Enabling Environment Studies Workshop in Wadi Hajar with International Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Center for Environmental Studies and Water Resources at Hadhramout University, represented by its Director <strong>Prof. Khalid Saleh Bawahidi<\/strong> and Head of Research <strong>Dr. Salah Abdullah Bin Farijan<\/strong>, participated in the technical workshop organized by the <strong>Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)<\/strong> on the \u201cFindings of the Enabling Environment Studies in Wadi Hajar.\u201d The workshop was held on <strong>Monday, June 16, 2025<\/strong>, at <strong>Nesto Hotel \u2013 Mukalla<\/strong>, with support from the <strong>Governments of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Republic of France<\/strong>, and in coordination with the <strong>Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries of Yemen<\/strong>, with the participation of both international and local experts.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop included four technical sessions focused on enhancing sustainable management of water and agricultural resources in Wadi Hajar:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Baseline Assessment Study<\/strong>: Analysis of the current status of water resources, soil, and agricultural infrastructure, and strategies to improve their efficiency.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Land Tenure and Gender<\/strong>: Discussion of mechanisms to integrate women\u2019s and youth\u2019s rights in land ownership and promote equity in resource distribution.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Master Plan Development Committee for Wadi Hajar<\/strong>: Presentation of planned infrastructure projects.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Community Engagement and Establishment of Water User Associations<\/strong>: Strengthening the role of local communities in resource management through sustainable associations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The following international organizations provided technical and financial support for the workshop:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>FAO<\/strong>: Presented findings from its studies on integrated water management.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Acacia Coalition (Al-Khair Alliance)<\/strong>: Supported the community engagement component.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Development Expert Helen Lackner and Wageningen University (Netherlands)<\/strong>: Provided technical models for water quality monitoring and consumption optimization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Center\u2019s participation reflects its role as a local expert with international representation, building on its pioneering efforts in applied research to address environmental and water-related challenges in Hadhramout since its establishment in <strong>1998<\/strong>.
