Abstract

The paper aims at  shedding  light on the representation of women in  selected  Hadhrami proverbs***. The assumption is that women's image is distorted because of  men's chauvinism in the  patriarchal Hadhrami  society.  Samples of these proverbs have been analyzed to show how women are represented. Besides, there have been an investigation  among the youth to see what are the reasons that stand behind that dark image and the social negative attitude towards women. The study comes to the  conclusion that range of   negativity and distortion in the proverbs are not the same. The study is divided into  four chapters; the first  is a definition of terms and concepts and the related studies; the second is about the methods and approaches  followed in the analysis; the third is the analysis of the data; and the forth is a conclusion that sums up the findings.
