Overview

The Department of Physical Education and Sports was opened in the academic year 1999-2000 within the departments of the Education Faculty in Mukalla, and a number of students enrolled it was (17) students, most of whom were physical education teachers in elementary and secondary schools. The first batch graduated was about (13) students obtained a bachelor’s degree in education, specializing in physical education and sports. The department celebrated on Thursday 20/10/2016 the graduation of the fourteenth batch, which was called the “Restoring Hope” batch, numbered (19) students.

Vision

The Department of Physical Education and Sports at Hadhramout University is working on improving the capabilities of its students on the scientific aspect by providing them with a distinguished and integrated scientific education, as well as from a theoretical aspect. It also seeks to supply the labor market with these competencies to be active elements in serving and building Yemen society and contributing to its scientific and sports development.

Mission

The department seeks to contribute in developing the sport aspect in Yemen, through the qualitative preparation of human cadres working in the various sports sectors. The department also seeks excellence in the field of scientific research, practical activities, and developing the competencies and skills of graduates through training programs in various fields and giving them the ability to compete in the local and Arab markets. As well as continuous cooperation with various sports and educational institutions in the local community, such as the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the faculties and departments of physical education in Yemeni universities.

Objectives

  1. Preparing teachers of physical education and sports working in elementary and secondary schools and at all levels of education, familiar with the educational, sports and social aspects.
  2. Preparing teachers to work in sport clubs and institutions.
  3. Preparing youth leaders to work in the Ministry of Youth and Sports to develop the sports movement for all sectors of the country in cooperation with the concerned authorities.
  4. Preparing technical and administrative cadres to work in faculties and university activities.
  5. Work to raise the student’s physical, health and mental capacity to assume the responsibility entrusted to him in work, production and protect the homeland.
  6. Encouraging talented university students in the sport fields and preparing them to be national champions.
  7. Providing health and physical advice and holding sport courses for all sectors of society.
  8. Conducting studies to provide scientific and sports services to the sport clubs and institutions.
  9. Active participation with governmental and private bodies operating within the sports field by providing scientific and practical advice.
  10. Continuing to develop programs and curricula that cope with the latest developments and scientific & technological knowledge in the world.
