Overview

Mathematics is one of the main sciences and the basis for progress in all fields, as it is the basis for the development of science and technology. The Department of Science and Mathematics at the Education Faculty in Mukalla contains two academic programs, a mathematics/computer teacher, and a science teacher. A bachelor’s degree is awarded in these two programs.

Vision

To prepare graduates capable of fulfilling the mission of the teaching profession at the basic education level, and to enable the department to provide scientific consultation to the community.

Mission

Preparing a graduate capable of carrying out the mission of the teaching profession in the elementary level, and for the department to be able to provide scientific advice to the community.

Objectives

  • To prepare scientifically and professionally distinguished graduates with high educational competencies in mathematics and computer science.
  • To foster awareness of professional ethics and scientific research, and to promote positive attitudes toward mathematics and computer science.
  • To meet the needs of educational institutions with highly qualified personnel.
  • To develop and evaluate mathematics and computer science curricula for academic programs within the college and other faculties of education.
  • To initiate and enhance departmental programs to meet quality assurance and academic accreditation requirements.
  • To design special programs for the qualification and in-service training of teachers in coordination with relevant authorities.
  • To enhance the competencies of unqualified in-service teachers through distinguished programs and by guiding student research in this direction

Description of Courses :

The curriculum of the Bachelor’s Program in Social Studies Teaching comprises 136 credit hours, which students complete over the course of eight academic semesters. These hours are distributed across three core requirement categories, as presented in the table below.

Course Coding and Numbering in the Curriculum of the Bachelor’s Program in Social Studies Teaching

The courses in the Social Studies Teaching program are coded with the prefix “SST”, which refers to the Social Studies Teaching specialization. The course numbering consists of three digits, each representing the following:

  1. The first digit (hundreds place) indicates the academic year in which the course is offered. For example, the number 1 refers to the first academic year.
  2. The second digit (tens place) represents the semester in which the course is taught. The number 1 refers to the first semester, while 2 refers to the second semester.
  3. The third digit (units place) indicates the sequence of the course within the semester according to the curriculum structure.

University Requirements:

These are mandatory courses that all university students must complete, regardless of their major. The University Requirements consist of 16 credit hours, representing approximately 12% of the total credit hours in the curriculum. These courses are distributed as shown in the table below.
