The Chemical Engineering Society conducted a field visit on Sunday and Wednesday, November 26th and 29th, for the second-level students in the Chemical Engineering Department to Khairat Aden Factory for Plastics.

During the visit, the students received an extensive explanation of the factory facilities from Engineer Saeed bin Thabet, the Head of the Quality Department. They learned about the various stages of pipe manufacturing processes, such as consumer water pipes, gas pipes, and sewage pipes. They also knew the manufacturing of these pipes using materials such as BVC and calcium carbonate. They observed the precise mixing, heating, shaping, and rapid cooling involved in the manufacturing process.

Furthermore, the students got acquainted with different types of pipes, their mechanisms, and the main differences between them as dry pipes, which primarily rely on BVC67 and calcium carbonate, were discussed, as well as soft pipes like gas and water pipes, which depend on BVC70, calcium carbonate, and special lubricants or plasticizers.

At the end of the visit, the Chemical Engineering Society presented a certificate of appreciation to the factory administration for their cooperation in organizing the educational visit that enhanced the student’s knowledge.

Professor Ahmed Mubarak Al-Sabai, Deputy Dean of the Faculty for Quality Affairs, Community Service, and Staff Member in the Chemical Engineering Department, accompanied the students on their visit.
