A Training Course in the Field of Occupational Safety and Health for Engineering Projects

Under the patronage of the Public Works Project and in the presence of Dr. Fahd Saleh Jawhar, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum at the University of Hadhramout, Eng. Mohsen Hamid; Director of the Public Works Project in the governorates of Ma’rib and Shabwa, and Eng. Abdulrahim Omar Al Houri; Director of the Public Works Project in the governorates of Hadramout – Al Mahra – Socotra

A training course in the field of occupational safety and health for engineering projects for contractors and consulting engineers was held on Wednesday 28/11/2018 in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum

At the beginning of the course, Dr. Al-Mughalles spoke about the first axis of the course, which was the concepts, objectives, and requirements of occupational safety and health for contractors, engineers and workers in their protection, materials, equipment and tools, facility , in addition to protecting the environment, as well as the responsibilities of occupational safety and health for owners. Contractors and workers were obligated to follow and implement laws and standards of occupational safety and health during the implementation of works and achieving their safety conditions (work – workers – location- equipment and materials – environment – public property – private property).

In the second axis of the course, he touched on assessment, control and risk management, in addition to the procedures and means of occupational safety and health by preventing, protecting and mitigating potential risks during the implementation of the work.

During the course, some occupational safety and health tools and equipment were reviewed and how to deal with them in the right and proper ways in order to train workers at work place.

At the end of the course, he urged contractors to adhere to the importance of following and implementing occupational safety, health laws and standards during the implementation of works and achieving their conditions.

He also stressed on the consulting engineers for the need to monitor the implementation of occupational safety and health laws and standards by contractors and workers.

In the same context, Eng. Abdulrahim Al-Houri stated that the projects implemented by the Public Works Project and funded by external parties have been suspended until further notice for non-compliance by contractors and workers with the conditions and procedures of occupational safety and the occurrence of many injuries during work.

In addition, Eng. Mohsen Hamid and Eng. Abdulrahim Al-Houri responded to the inquiries and questions of contractors and consulting engineers.

The course was attended by Dr. Anwer Ahmed Ba-Issa; Head of the Architectural Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum, Hadhramout University, contractors from Hadhramout, Shabwa and Socotra governorates, as well as students from the Architectural and Civil Engineering Departments at the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum, Hadhramout University.
