The Department of Chemical Engineering received the Department of Chemistry at Science college on Monday morning, 10/12/2018, represented by a group of staff members in the department, and fourth-level students, in a unique step aimed at highlighting the extent of interdependence between the two departments, and exchanging experiences and knowledge.

The staff members of  Chemical Engineering department were honored to receive the visitors, headed by the head of the department, Dr. Ali Hassan Al-Shenini, who in his turn greeted the attendees, welcoming the professors and students, led by the head of the Chemistry Department , Dr. Mohammed Bashenini, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Dali, and Dr. Abdulrahman Abdul Aziz, thanking their quest and efforts in coordinating such profound gestures.

He then stated  the Department of Chemical Engineering and the department’s specialized staff, in addition to the quality laboratories, and what distinguishes the department most is (ABET Quality System), which is a qualitative leap for students benefiting from this program. He added in his speech the latest developments of excellence, which is the department’s obtaining the membership of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Then he completed by the value of interrelationship between the two specializations of Chemical Engineering and the Chemistry Department , common denominators, and the complementary aspects of some of them.

After that, the attendees visited the laboratories of the department, accompanied by members of the Chemical Engineering Society, who played their part in introducing the visitors to the types of laboratories and their roles, as the beginning was from the heat and mass transfer laboratory in which Eng. Ruwaida Al Kathiri talked about the most important existing devices and equipment and the types of possible experiments. Then they went to the Oil Properties Laboratory, and they were received by Eng. Najla Ba-taher, who offered them the experiment of the fractional distillation of gasoline. Also, they got acquainted with the process of producing sulfuric acid in the laboratory and to identify the simplified form of the oil operations in Petro Masila.

After that, they were received by Eng. Basem Al-Houri in the chemistry lab, who explained to the students the importance of the lab and its great connection with the chemistry department, and introduced them to the quality of experiments and materials used in the lab. Then proceeded to the multimedia lab, which includes newly equipped computers within the academic accreditation program to obtain ABET, which is supported by the international Bank. Finally, the students visited the fluid mechanics laboratory to learn about the most important experiments in the field of fluids, and they were accompanied by Eng. Nassib Al-Amash. Where the students expressed their great admiration for the laboratories and their modernity, and the quality of the existing equipment.

For his part, Dr. Mohammed Bashnini extended a word of thanks to the Department of Chemical Engineering, staff and students for their warm reception, and for coordinating the visit during the department’s facilities, praying to God Almighty to complete these endeavors perfectly. He also sent a special invitation to the Department of Chemical Engineering to visit the Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science.
