The Scientific Society of the Petroleum Engineering Department at Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum, Hadhramout University, organized a scientific field visit for third-level students on Sunday, February 6, 2022, and a scientific trip to Wadi Hajar in the coast of Hadhramout. They were accompanied by the engineers of the Geological Survey Authority, Hadhramout Branch, in order to study the rocky structures and the geological rocky components. They got acquainted with the geological column of Hadhramout Governorate in the Maabar area, and its comparison with the geological column of Yemen. In addition to the characteristics of each formation was also clarified according to the rocky sequence. It was also clarified, theoretically and practically, by the engineers of the Geological Survey, with a detail and explanation of each formation, and their relationship with oil and its source within the oil-bearing rocky layers in the oil fields of Yemen and Hadhramout in particular. In addition to its various compositional characteristics and rock diversity that distinguish it from other geological locations.
During the visit, the students expressed their happiness at acquiring valuable information and linking it to theoretical information within the curriculum in the specialization. The trip was concluded with a set of information and instructions for students by the Authority’s engineers.
At the end of the trip, the Scientific Society of the Petroleum Engineering Department extended its sincere thanks and appreciation to the leadership of the Authority, represented by Engineer Salah Ahmed Babhair; General Director of the Authority’s branch, and all accompanying engineers, headed by Engineer Ali Shaqra and Engineer Abdullah Al-Amiri, for their cooperation to make this scientific field trip a success. They also thanked the Deanship of the faculty and the department to provide facilities and support for this visit.
It is worth mentioning that this trip comes within the joint cooperation between the faculty of Engineering and Petroleum represented by the Petroleum Engineering Department, the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority, Hadhramout Branch, and within the activities of the SPE chapter and the Scientific Society of the Petroleum Engineering Department. Eng. Hussein Al-Dhabi accompanied the students on this trip.
