Medicine and Health Sciences Faculty Launches the Doctorate Program in Public Health

The Medicine and Health Sciences Faculty at Hadhramout University launched the doctorate program in public health at the higher education hall in Open Education Faculty. In the presence of Prof. Hadi Al-Sabban, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Samir Yeslam Ba-Othman; Dean of Medicine Faculty, Dr. Waleed Al-Attas; Dean of Open Education Faculty, Dr. Hussein Al-Ghazali; Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Studies at Medicine Faculty, Prof. Abdullah Bin Ghoth, Head of Community Medicine Department.

During the inauguration, Prof. Hadi Al-Sabban conveyed greetings and blessings from the HU President and confirmed that the program represents a qualitative leap in qualifying health cadres at the general level in Yemen especially in Hadhramout. He praised the efforts of the Medicine and Health Sciences Faculty, represented by its Dean, Dr. Sameer Ba-Othman, and the program coordinator, Prof. Abdullah bin Gouth. He urged the students to exert their efforts to benefit from the staff members of the faculty and keep pace with the latest developments in the field of public health.

Dr. Sameer Ba-Othman stated that the faculty considers the program a qualitative and distinguished leap, as it is the first doctoral program in the faculty. He expressed his appreciation for the support and assistance of the University leadership, represented by the University President and the Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, in facilitating all the procedures for the success of this program. It consisted of a group of students from various governorates of the Republic and Jordan. He thanked Prof. Abdullah bin Gouth for his efforts in the idea, content, curriculum, and description of the Ph.D. program.

Dr. Mahmoud Al-Kayed from the International Academy in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan stated that Hadhramout University had signed an agreement with the academy in July 2022 in Jordan, marking the beginning of the launch of the Doctorate Program in Public Health.

Dr. Ahlam bin Break, the Director of the Women’s Studies Center at the University, also delivered a speech, encouraging the students to exert effort and aspire for more knowledge.

Representing the doctoral students, Sahar Al-Amari, and representing the master’s program, Rola Badrais expressed that obtaining the opportunity for qualification at Hadhramout University saved them the trouble of traveling abroad. They will benefit from the expertise of the staff members in discussing the research proposal for master’s and doctoral students in the upcoming period.

After that, Prof. Abdullah bin Gouth briefly presented the postgraduate programs in collaboration between the Medicine and Health Sciences faculty at Hadhramout University and faculties in the Sultanate of Oman and the Arab Republic of Egypt.

At the end of the meeting, the students who applied for the Master’s and Doctoral programs in Public Health at the University introduced themselves to each other.
