As part of the efforts to achieve the goals of Vision 2030 and the Department of Chemical Engineering’s commitment to enhancing the educational process and improving student competencies through practical experience, second-year students from the department, under the supervision of Dr. Badea Saeed Babgi, Head of the Department, conducted a visit to the Khairat Aden Plastic Products Factory.

The visit commenced with a cordial meeting with the factory’s Executive Director, Mr. Hassan Al-Murshidi, during which several important topics related to the summer training program for fourth-year students for the academic year 2024–2025 were discussed. The factory affirmed its full readiness to collaborate with the department in hosting students for hands-on training, thereby bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge acquired at the university and its practical applications in the field.

Eng. Khaled Al-Kurbi, President of the Association; Eng. Obaid Bakri, Training and Field Visit Coordinator; and Eng. Mohammed Bawazeer, the Planning Manager, also attended the meeting.

Following the meeting, the students were given a comprehensive tour of the factory, where they observed the various stages of plastic manufacturing. The tour included detailed and practical explanations of the processes, from raw materials to final products. The students were accompanied by Eng. Abdullah Ammar (Production Manager), Eng. Ali Bahmeesh (Quality Manager), and Eng. Mohammed Bawazir (Planning Manager)—all of whom are alumni of the Chemical Engineering Department at Hadhramout University.

Key highlights of the visit included:

  1. Raw Material Mixing Stage: Demonstration of how chemical materials are blended for plastic production.
  2. Extrusion and Molding Process: Explanation of plastic shaping mechanisms using modern equipment and technologies.
  3. Final Processing Operations: Overview of cooling, cutting, and packaging techniques for finished products.
  4. Quality Control: Presentation of quality monitoring systems used to ensure products meet required standards.

Dr. Badea expressed his sincere appreciation to the factory management, noting that the visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to understand the practical aspects of their studies and to witness real-world applications of chemical engineering in industry. The students expressed enthusiasm for the experience and praised the factory’s efforts in offering clear explanations and a supportive learning environment.

In conclusion, this visit underscores the importance of integrating academic and practical components to maximize the benefits for chemical engineering students. It contributes to preparing qualified professionals capable of meeting labor market demands and supporting the realization of Vision 2030. Dr. Badea also extended his gratitude to the Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum, Prof. Salem Bamoumen, for his support and facilitation of this successful visit.
