Fifth-level students, Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum, Hadhramout University made a scientific visit to the port of Mukalla on Thursday, 6/12/2018. They were received by Ahmed Abdullah Al-Amoudi; the official of the docks at the port, who toured the students at the quay, explaining to them the mechanism of work in the port, from docking of ships and ships at the quayside to unloading.
The students also visited the cement filling warehouse of Al-Mihdhar Company, where the students listened to how the cement is unloaded from ships, collected inside the warehouse, purified from impurities, and then packed in its own bags.
Then the fifth-level students from the Chemical Engineering Department visited the General Authority for Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control at the port. The students listened to Mohammed Bawazeer, the quality engineer in the authority, to a full and detailed explanation of the importance of specifications and standards as specific and globally agreed requirements and measurements according to standards specific to each commodity, material and class.
He also stated that the imported goods and materials are subject to the examination process by sending them to the specialized laboratory in Sana’a, but after the recent events that the country has gone through, what is written in the graphic card attached to the imported shipment is sufficient. He also stated that the Gulf specifications were recently approved upon examination,.
At the conclusion of his meeting, he expressed his readiness to coordinate special visits for students and to present some special lectures to students of chemical engineering in the field of standards and metrology.
At the end of the visit, the students thanked Mr. Ahmed Abdullah Al-Amoudi, the official of the docks in the port, and Eng. Mohammed Bawazeer, the quality engineer at the Standards, Metrology and Quality Control Authority, for the explanation and important information they provided to the students in their field of specialization.
The students were accompanied on this visit by Dr. Abdul-Raqeeb Al-Wahbi; Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
