Abstract

This study addresses a subtle issue related to the interpretation of the Quran: the connection between Yemen and the Levant in the interpretations of Quranic commentators. In other words, it examines verses that have been interpreted as referring to Yemen and the Levant in conjunction. The research gains its importance from its connection to the Quran and from the fact that it discusses two regions that attained prominence and honor after Mecca and Medina. The researcher addresses this issue using an inductive and critical approach through three sections. The first section defines the connection, Yemen, the Levant, and the commentators. The second section traces the commentators' interest in mentioning Yemen and the Levant in their interpretations, explaining their methods of addressing this and the reasons that led them to link Yemen and the Levant in their interpretations. The third section of the study examines examples of instances where commentators have linked Yemen and Syria. This is divided into two parts: the first part addresses verses on which commentators agree regarding their interpretation of Yemen and Syria, and the second addresses verses on which they disagree. The study concludes with several key findings, including: The Quran frequently mentions Yemen and Syria in many verses, sometimes individually and sometimes together. The primary reason for linking Yemen and Syria in the interpretations of commentators is their shared virtue and honor.  Most verses interpreted in terms of Yemen and Syria are illustrative rather than definitive.  Many interpretations linking Yemen and Syria in certain verses require further examination. The researcher concluded that the topic still requires further clarification and elucidation, and therefore recommended that researchers address it in a scholarly thesis that compiles the verses interpreted in relation to Yemen and the Levant, along with a thorough examination and study of those interpretations
