Launch of Plastic Damage Reduction Campaign

The Centre for Environmental Studies and Water Resources at Hadhramout University launched a campaign to reduce the damage of  plastic funded  by the Selah Foundation Development. The campaign’s purpose is to reduce the negative influence of  non-biodegradable plastic bags on human health other organisms and the environment. By reducing the quantities used in our country by gradually preparing for their final future prevention and  replacing  replacement bags. The campaign aims to:

  • Start instilling the concept of reducing the use of plastic bags among members of society and indicate their influence and damage to the environment.
  • Creating environmental awareness of the risks of using plastic bags.
  • Support the spirit of individual and community initiative and assume responsibility among all segments of society towards our surrounding environment.
  • Familiarize society with the alternative solutions to the current bags used.
  • The individual’s behavior changed after being convinced of the subject’s importance.
  • realizing the effects of future problems of the erroneous use of plastic bags.

The campaign targets different groups of society, especially:

  • Schools and Universities student.
  • Parents, especially mothers.
  • Teachers (educating students).
  • Civil society organizations.

The first campaign was launched in basic and secondary education schools with a meeting with students of the Foh Girls’ Education Complex. With his speech of Dr. Khaled Saleh Bawahdi, director of the center and then Awareness Lecturer by Dr. Nada Sheikh Mull Al- Duwila about a warning about the risks of plastic. Then discussion with female students at the educational complex who showed interaction and interest in the subject of the campaign. The campaign was received by Ms.Ihsan Said Ba-sharif, the director of the educational complex, Ms. Hanin Sanad Ba-Yashout, School Specialist, and Khulod Saeed Hatem, a media outlet at the complex.
