The Media and Social Functions of Radio Broadcasting in Yemen: An Analytical Study

This study aims to analyze the media and social functions of radio broadcasting in Yemen, with a particular focus on its role amid the country’s current circumstances. It seeks to present a precise scientific vision based on a clear methodology to contribute to a deeper understanding of radio’s role within Yemen’s complex context. The study adopts a qualitative analytical approach and is based on a comprehensive review of previous studies and available information about broadcasting in Yemen. It also examines the economic, social, cultural, legal, and technological factors that influence radio performance. Preliminary findings reveal a significant increase in the number of radio stations, particularly community radios, reflecting the importance of this medium in meeting the Yemeni audience’s needs for information, entertainment, and guidance.
However, radio stations face major challenges, including weak infrastructure, lack of sustainable funding, political pressures, and the absence of regulatory legislation. The study recommends the need to support community radios, provide an appropriate legal and legislative environment for their operation, and enhance their role in community development and public awareness. Moreover, it recommends conducting further field studies to accurately assess their impact.
