As women play an active and vital role in various sectors, and the growing interest in the countries of the world in general, and the developed countries in the establishment of specialized centers for documentation, information and studies in the field of women, the need to establish a Center for Women’s Studies is emerged.

In 2013, Hadhramout University established the Women’s Center (WC) to be one of its specialized centers.

WC aims to provide more support to women in various fields in order to utilize their capabilities in developing and building society.

The Center seeks to cooperate with universities and scientific centers specialized in studies and research, as well as with Arab and international governmental and non-governmental organizations and information networks to support its activities. That’s in addition to provide information that will contribute to the development of policies at all levels, and provide support and technical assistance to non-governmental organizations and researchers and specialists.

Vision

To raise the position of women and enhance their role in society in accordance with the today’s requirements and sustainable development.

Mission

To employ scientific research to serve women’s issues and provide scientific environment to enable them to participate in building a knowledge society,  and integrate their needs into development plans.

Objectives

 

  • To Establish a database of statistics and information on women in the health, educational, economic and social fields.
  • To organize and participate in awareness-raising and training courses and local and international conferences.
  • The introduction of reproductive health concepts in college competitions that do not conflict with Islamic law.
  • Promote Islamic culture to promote the values of equality between men and women.
  • Counseling and training programmes for women’s affairs institutions.
  • To emphasize the establishment of the concepts of Islam for the concept of social justice;
  • Reaching out to decision makers to contribute to inclusive development.
  • To contribute to the development and improvement of the status of women in Yemeni society and to enhance their participation.
  • Contributing to policy analysis and proposing programmes that improve women’s status through studies and research.
  • collaborative work with institutions outside the university, counseling and training programmes for women’s affairs institutions.
  • To build a network of contacts with local, regional and global women’s organizations.
