The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Hadhramout University Organizes a Workshop to Update the General Medicine and Surgery Program

Under the patronage of the President of Hadhramout University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Khinbash, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, in coordination with the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center, organized this morning a workshop entitled “Updating the Specifications of the General Medicine and Surgery Program,” held at the faculty building in Fuwah.

In his opening remarks, the University President expressed his sincere appreciation to the Faculty Deanship and its staff for their continuous efforts to advance the educational process. He emphasized that organizing such scientific workshops reflects the university’s commitment to implementing quality standards and supports the faculty’s path toward obtaining academic accreditation. He also expressed confidence in the faculty’s ability to complete the program’s self‑study and achieve accreditation requirements, contributing to the development of academic work and meeting labor market needs before the middle of next year.

For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Saleh Awadh Bahoul, explained that the workshop represents a fundamental milestone in the process of developing academic programs, enhancing the quality of medical education, and achieving accreditation requirements. He stressed that advancing medical education is a shared responsibility that integrates the efforts of the faculty, the healthcare sector, civil society, and the Academic Development Center, ensuring the graduation of physicians who possess professional competence, clinical skills, and ethical responsibility.

The Dean further noted that the faculty is steadily progressing toward updating its academic programs, improving the quality of its outputs, and strengthening its partnerships with healthcare and community institutions, in line with its mission to serve society and the nation.

The workshop included the discussion and approval of four fundamental components considered core pillars of any modern medical program. These components were developed based on a clear scientific methodology, reviewed in accordance with quality assurance and academic accreditation standards, and informed by leading regional and international experiences, while taking into account the specific needs of the local healthcare context.

The workshop was attended by the Director of the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Aidhah Bahashwan; the Vice President of Arab University, Prof. Dr. Ali Batarfi; the Vice Deans; heads of academic departments; faculty members and assistant teaching staff; several academic experts and specialists; representatives from public and private hospitals; civil society organizations; as well as student representatives.
