Faculty Establishment

Nursing Faculty at Hadhramout University was established by the University President Resolution No.(118) in 2005, based on the Ministers Council Decree No.(166) of the same year. Therefore, 2005 / 2006 was the first academic year.

Various studies have shown a lack of qualified nursing graduates to cover the needs of health services in all parts of Yemen, and the current nursing care level does not reach to what Yemeni citizen looks forward. Priorities for health problems and needs were obtained from the following resources:

  1. Statistical reports for the Ministry of Health, its institutions and world health organizations.
  2. Published researches and field work studies.
  3. Reports and studies prepared by civil organizations.
  4. Planned researches and studies.

Several indicators have been found, including:

    1. Urgent need for nursing services in all parts of Yemen at all levels, starting with the individual and family.
    2. The need to offer high quality nursing care for all the society members.
    3. The need to improve nursing services in order to raise health services.
    4. The need for health education and its support.
    5. Provision of support for immunization campaigns.
    6. Provision of nursing care for chronic diseases.
    7. Support of the preventive health.
    8. Expansion of environmental health.
    9. Supply and support of life-saving food and medicine.
    10. The community is committed to serving and caring for this segment of society.”

Vision

To be a pioneering faculty at the local and regional levels in nursing sciences, and promoting scientific research and community service.

Mission

To provide cutting-edge nursing education based on the WHO’s standards that adjust to challenges and requirements of health community as well as the preventive, curative and  rehabilitative variables of  health care system in order to correspond to the global and regional developments, and to contribute to developing scientific research in the field of nursing.

Objectives

  1. To qualify well-rounded graduates in the field of nursing sciences and the related basic and health sciences in order to meet the needs of individuals, families and society.
  2. To provide the students with ethics and professional skills which include confidentiality and privacy.
  3. To contribute to the promotion of both the level of nursing profession in Yemen and health awareness level in the society through comprehensive concept of health.
  4. To provide the students with skills and bases of scientific research to solve health problems and cope with contemporary issues.
  5. To build an effective partnership with the society as well as the local and regional health institutions to promote the level of nursing and health.
