Environmental Studies & Water Resources Center Participates in a Meeting With World Health Organization

The Environmental Studies and Water Resources center at Hadhramout University participated in the 1st meeting with World Health Organization on Low Carbon Sustainable Health Systems for the international working groups. Dr. Khaled Bawahidi is the chairperson of the second work group in Yemen and the dean of the Environmental Studies center. He discussed the possibility of providing field equipment to the work groups to carry out field work and measurements of carbon emissions from our country’s health-care systems during the current situation of the country and the lack of the scientific information and statistics.

More than eighty members were participated from different countries included public, academic members and  health representatives in addition to the WHO specialists in health and climate. Dr. Khaled considered this participation as a positive step to activate the activities of the center especially by the international participations.

The meeting sessions were held via video conference ”zoom” from 8 o’clock to 11 o’clock   Geneva, Switzerland Time. The first session discussed the important issues of Low Carbon Sustainable Health Systems  work group such as; vision, references, and suggested titles for proposals. At the same time the second and third sessions focused on the countries’ priorities and needs to reduce carbon in health institutions and the opportunities as well as the required support to enable countries to fulfill their commitments. Moreover, they mentioned some of the successful initiatives such as; ” Health Care Without Harm”   and they also  discussed the support  mechanism.
