Students’ activities and events
Student activities within the university’s colleges and university complexes vary between sports activities, cultural awareness-raising activities, and activities that generate creativity of various kinds. These activities are carried out in most universities worldwide, but what distinguishes Hadhramout University after the year 2013 is that it adopted a consistent approach in launching fixed activities that capture the summary of the scientific and creative achievements activities carried out by university students over the course of the academic year. The goal is to highlight them, present them to the local community, preserve and document them, motivate their makers, and push them into the arena of creative competition.
Following are some of the activities that the Students Affairs Deputyship has committed to implement each academic year:
Artistic and theatrical activities
The Artistic Festival Committee accompanying the University Students Week activities implemented several artistic and theatrical activities starting from the academic year 2017. During the activities of the ninth University Students Week, an artistic group was formed including university students interested in invocation, arts and theater. However, at the end of the concluding activities of the ninth week, general artistic activities were suspended due to the Corona pandemic.
Cultural and awareness activities
The Students Affairs Deputyship organizes a program of cultural and awareness lectures annually for male and female university students, to discuss the problems that our society suffers from, to try to create public awareness of those matters, and propose solutions to those issues. These issues include qat and drug problems, and dangerous diseases such as AIDS and cancer of all kinds etc. Specialists in government institutions and civil society organizations interested in these matters are sought for to assist in discussing and creating the awareness required. Moreover, stories and poetry morning sessions and other cultural activities implemented in the university colleges and university residences are organized and implemented.
Sports and scouting activities
A committee was formed to lead all the sports and scouting activities implemented by the Students Affairs Deputyship at the university, and during the past period, a group of activities have been implemented that have become a mandatory tradition that we are committed to implement so as to highlight the talents of our male and female students in various sports games.
The following have been organized:
- The annual league for colleges in various sports for both genders (male and female students).
2. Yemeni Universities’ League in various sports once every two years, and in the academic year 2018, the first version of this league was organized with the participation of five (5) universities in addition to Hadhramout University. Moreover, the second version of this league had been planned had it not been for the political events and the Corona pandemic that halted our efforts in the establishment of the 2020 League for volleyball for female university students.
3. Sports Festival for female university students in chess and table tennis in coordination with the annual sports federation in the governorate. The second version of this annual festival in February 2020 with the participation of female students of technical and vocational institutes in the Hadhramout Coast was accomplished. We aspire for the circle of participation to expand to include all girls in educational institutions in the Hadhramout Coast; to ensure the discovery of talents and their continuation from generic education, especially the secondary stage to the university stage.
