Women’s Faculty at Hadhramout University Holds the Annual Bazaar for the Year 2023 in Coordination with the Women’s National Committee and the Safe Space for Women and Girls. The bazaar was inaugurated on Wednesday morning on December 6, 2023, by the Vice President of Hadhramout University, Prof. Abdullah Saleh Babair, in Mukalla, accompanied by Prof. Hadi Al-Sabban, the Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research. The annual bazaar was organized under the patronage of the University President, Prof. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash.
The bazaar was held in the faculty courtyard in the presence of Prof. Najat Ahmed Bousba, the Dean of the Women’s Faculty, Prof. Mohammed Awadh Barshaid, the Dean of the Arts and Humanities Faculty and Dr. Nawal Mahfouz Marei, the Deputy Dean of Women’s faculty, and Ms. Faiza Faraj Bamataraf the Chairwoman of the Women’s National Committee in Hadhramout, .
During the opening, Prof. Abdullah Babair emphasized the importance of organizing this annual bazaar, which shows the students’ creativity and enhances the role of women in society.
The bazaar included an art exhibition by the students of the Fine Arts Department, which was a vivid example of the student’s creativity and uniqueness in creating paintings and artworks, along with the display and sale of handmade products such as bags and clothes to promote the national industry. There were also various other crafts, such as the production of incense and perfumes and the organization of a charity dish by the faculty students to support the “Makken” Association for people with special needs. Several students, staff members, and the local community attended the bazaar.
As part of the global celebration of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, the Women’s National Committee in Hadhramout, in coordination with the Women’s Faculty and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Hadhramout University, organized a lecture entitled “Women and Peace.”
During the lecture, Prof. Abdullah Saleh Babair, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, highlighted that this event, organized by the university in collaboration with the Women’s National Committee, is not the first, as many programs and activities have been implemented in the past. He emphasized the role of women in society and the respect and appreciation they receive.
The Chairwoman of the Women’s National Committee in Hadhramout, Ms. Faiza Faraj Bamataraf, explained that the goal of organizing this lecture, which coincides with the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, is to increase awareness of the issue of violence against women and enhance women’s role in building peace in society.
Prof. Najat Bousba, Dean of the Women’s faculty, and Prof. Mohammed Barshaid, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, attended the lecture.
It is worth mentioning that an awareness lecture on the legal rights of working women was also held at the Women’s Faculty, presented by the Safe Space for Women and Girls. The lecturer emphasized the importance of women being aware of their legal rights which guarantee their right to defend those rights and prevent their exploitation by being dismissed from their workplaces when not needed. In addition, combating the violence they may face due to ignorance of these laws.
The celebration of the annual bazaar was attended by Dr. Lina Jaafar Bonmi, the head of the Fine Arts Department, Dr. Fatima Abdullah Bahdila, the head of the Kindergarten Department, and Sarah Mohammed Bajri, the director of the Family and Community Development Unit at the faculty, in addition to several staff members and students. It is also worth mentioning that the celebration of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign is held annually from November 25th to December 10th to raise awareness on issues related to violence against women.
