Hadhrmout University Launches the 14th Annual University Student Week with Participation from Several Yemeni Universities in Mukalla

The 14th Annual University Student Week for 2025 was inaugurated in the Ali Hood Baabad Hall at Hadhrmout University. The event was held under Mr. Mubkhout Mubarak Bin Madi, Governor of  Hadhrmout, and Prof. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash, President of Hadhrmout University, with participation from several Yemeni universities.

During the inauguration ceremony, which began with verses from the Holy Quran, Mr. Saleh Aboud Al-Amqi, Secretary-General of the Local Council in Hadhrmout and Deputy Governor expressed his pleasure in launching the 14th University Student Week at the Hadhrmout University, which includes participation from several Yemeni universities. He highlighted that this event is a significant occasion that contributes to honing the talents and creativity of students in various fields. He noted that the continued organization of such activities by the University of Hadhrmout is an achievement that the governorate is proud of. He highlighted that the universities of Hadhrmout and Seiyun stand as some of Hadhrmout’s most significant achievements, which the region holds in high regard. He affirmed that the University Student Week is an opportunity to encourage students to engage in activities that help them discover their talents in all fields.

Prof. Mohammed Saeed Khanbash, President of Hadhrmout University, pointed out that this week has become an annual tradition organized by the university. It includes a variety of activities that have become a hallmark of creativity for Hadhrmout University, distinguishing it from other Yemeni universities. These activities have been previously branded as “Made in the HU .” Among the most notable events are the 10th edition of the Student Scientific Conference, which remains unique to the university, the 9th edition of the University Awards for Scientific and Cultural Creativity, and the 1st edition of the Entrepreneurial Ideas Competition. He stated that what distinguishes the University Student Weeks is their regular annual organization with the participation of other Yemeni universities. He confirmed that the university’s plans and various activities are based on its strategic plan launched in January 2023 during the celebrations of the university’s 30th anniversary. This plan also aims to promote a culture of quality among the largest number of university affiliates. This year’s plan includes activities to develop the professional and skill capacities of faculty members, their assistants, and the university’s leadership and administrative staff. Additionally, it includes the accreditation of academic programs to meet national accreditation standards and the introduction of specialized academic programs to meet labor market requirements.

This week coincides with the launch of the University of Hadhrmout’s new program “Welcome to Hadhrmout,” which includes 500 free scholarships for international students with free accommodation, in collaboration with supporting institutions. Additionally, there is a free scholarship program for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. He thanked the local authority leadership in the governorate, represented by Mr. Mubkhout Mubarak Bin Madi, Governor of Hadhramaut, Mr. Saleh Aboud Al-Amqi, Secretary-General of the Local Council in Hadhramaut and Deputy Governor, and the supporting institutions for the week’s activities, as well as all contributors to the success of the events.

Ms. Sarah Badaoui, President of the Fine Arts Club at the university, expressed the students’ happiness in her speech on behalf of the participating students at the launch of the 14th University Student Week for the academic year 2025. She thanked the Student Affairs Department and the university administration for their support in organizing these student activities to encourage students to practice their creative talents.

Following this, Mr. Saleh Aboud Al-Amqi, Secretary-General of the Local Council in the governorate, Prof. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash, President of the Hadhramaut University, and their accompanying delegation inaugurated the Yemeni Universities Championship for Chess and Table Tennis and the Free Drawing Competition as part of the 14th University Student Week at the Hadhramaut University.

The inauguration was attended by Prof. Salem Mubarak Al-Obthani, Vice President of the University for Student Affairs, Prof. Abdullah Saleh Baabair, Vice President of the University for Academic Affairs, Prof. Salem Faraj Bamsaud, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Mr. Fahmi Awad Badaoui, Assistant Deputy Governor of Hadhramaut for Youth Affairs, Mr. Hassan Saleh Masjedi, Director General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Office in the Hadhramaut Coast, several deans and vice-deans of faculties, faculty members and their assistants, university affiliates and students, and several general directors of ministerial offices and supporting institutions in the governorate.
