As part of “Hadhramout Week in the Russian Federation,” Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash, President of Hadhramout University, delivered a distinguished lecture today in the Chechen capital, Grozny, titled Hadhrami Honey: Why Is It Among the Most Expensive Honey in the World? The event was attended by a select group of Chechen university professors, prominent beekeepers, and students.

During the event, Prof. Dr. Khanbash traced the rich historical legacy of beekeeping in Hadhramout, emphasizing its significance across various eras — from pre-Christian times, through the pre-Islamic and Islamic periods, to the modern day. He noted that the honey trade held a prominent position in the economy of the ancient Hadhramout Kingdom in the 10th century BCE, ranking fourth in importance — a legacy that continues today.

Prof. Dr. Khanbash outlined the key factors that have contributed to the flourishing of beekeeping and the honey trade in Hadhramout throughout history. These include the Hadhrami people’s deep-rooted connection to agriculture, their meticulous care for rich and diverse bee pastures, and the accumulated expertise of Hadhrami beekeepers passed down through generations.

He also addressed the stark differences in honey prices globally, noting that while international honey prices range from two to fifty dollars, Hadhrami honey often exceeds three hundred dollars.

In conclusion, Prof. Dr. Khanbash answered the central question of his lecture by highlighting the unique characteristics that distinguish Hadhrami honey from other types worldwide. He explained that Hadhrami honey is a natural product derived from wild medicinal plants that grow in pristine, pollution-free environments. It is free from pesticides and chemical residues and is not genetically modified, making it a pure and toxin-free product. The honey is known for its attractive texture and pure natural aroma, unaffected by artificial or aged beeswaxes. It also has high therapeutic value, especially in comb honey, which contains one hundred percent natural beeswax. Hadhrami honey possesses desirable qualities that make it highly sought after both locally and internationally, and it has unique medicinal applications that set it apart from other honey.

Following the lecture, an engaging discussion occurred, with attendees posing numerous questions — all of which Prof. Dr. Khanbash addressed in detail.

The event concluded with expressions of gratitude to the attendees and the Chechen State Pedagogical University for their excellent organization of this valuable event.

“Hadhramout Week in the Russian Federation,” launched today at the Chechen State Pedagogical University, aims to strengthen the cultural and academic exchange between Yemen and Russia and to showcase the rich Hadhrami heritage and its global significance. The initiative is part of the ongoing partnership between Hadhramout University and the universities of Chechnya and Moscow.
