Major Success for the High-Level Yemeni Academic Delegation’s Visit to China: Strategic Partnerships and Agreements to Enhance Education and Scientific Research

With the participation of the Presidents of Hadhramout and Seiyun Universities, the high-level Yemeni academic delegation—comprising presidents of eight public universities—concluded its intensive and successful official visit to the People’s Republic of China, which took place from September 22 to 26, 2025.

The visit aimed to develop scientific partnerships and open new horizons for academic cooperation with leading Asian universities.

The delegation included active participation from Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash, Hadhramout University President, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ashour Al-Kathiri, Seiyun University President, accompanied by Dr. Mohamed Al-Ahmadi, Cultural Advisor at the Yemeni Embassy in Beijing.

The Yemeni university presidents affirmed that the visit represents a practical embodiment of the deep historical ties between Yemen and China and seeks to build effective cooperation and strategic partnerships.

The visit included important meetings with leaders of academic institutions in China, where the delegation emphasized active collaboration in vital sectors such as engineering, medicine, and environmental sciences. Discussions focused on developing academic programs, artificial intelligence, and strengthening scientific relations through formal memoranda of understanding. Agreements were reached to draft cooperation frameworks for training professionals in energy and engineering, and bilateral agreements were signed with Chinese universities.

Hadhramout University announced its readiness to welcome Chinese students through its “Welcome to Hadhramout” program for Arabic language instruction. The university also confirmed that it will host 20 international students from 12 countries this year to study Arabic.

The visit yielded tangible outcomes aimed at supporting higher education and scientific research in Yemen, including the signing of memoranda of understanding and several agreements to promote faculty and researcher exchange, implement student exchange programs, and launch joint postgraduate programs.

Beijing Petroleum University announced its intention to establish a dedicated Yemen Center, similar to its centers in other regional countries, to support energy-related studies and specialized training.

It was agreed that academic and scientific cooperation agreements will be drafted and signed next month by the Cultural Advisor at the Yemeni Embassy in Beijing, with the goal of supporting Yemen’s need for qualified professionals in the energy and engineering sectors.

These partnerships represent a strategic step in the efforts of Yemeni universities to unify their efforts and open new avenues for international cooperation, with the Cultural Attaché committed to providing full support to facilitate the implementation of these agreements.

The Yemeni academic delegation is scheduled to depart China this evening, heading to Aden after a successful visit that achieved its objectives and resulted in strategic partnerships and important understandings that will positively impact the development of higher education and scientific research in Yemen, and strengthen academic cooperation with Chinese universities and institutions.
