The international symposium titled “Arabic Language and Sharia Sciences: Functional Integration and Contemporary Challenges” was held at the Ali Ahmed Ba Kathir Hall at Hadhramout University, with the participation of a distinguished group of researchers and academic specialists from Hadhramout University and universities in Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia via Zoom. The event was organized as part of the Fourth Scientific Research Week 2025 and attended by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash, Hadhramout University President, and Prof. Dr. Salem Faraj Bamsoud, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research.
In the opening session, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Saleh Babair, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chair of the symposium, welcomed the participants and attendees, emphasizing that the symposium reflects Hadhramout University’s commitment to promoting scientific research and academic cooperation in the fields of Arabic language and Sharia sciences. He highlighted that Arabic is the language of the Holy Qur’an and the foundation of Arab cultural, spiritual, and national identity. He stated: “Through this symposium, we aim to deepen the understanding of Arabic and its relationship with Sharia sciences, identify contemporary challenges, and provide practical solutions. We also hope to strengthen collaboration among researchers and professors in these fields.”
The sessions, chaired by Prof. Dr. Babair alongside Prof. Dr. Jamal Hadijan, featured wide participation from scholars and professors of the mentioned universities. Several research papers and studies were presented, addressing the integration between Arabic language and Sharia sciences, their significance in the era of modern technology and artificial intelligence, and the experiences of Bruneian and Indonesian universities in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. The symposium also included interactive discussions and questions from attendees, which were answered by the speakers.
It is noteworthy that the Fourth Scientific Research Week at Hadhramout University aims to enhance scientific research and foster academic cooperation between local and international universities.
