In a year marked by transformation and challenge, Hadhramout University raised the banner of knowledge and innovation, reaffirming its leading role in Yemen’s academic landscape.
Throughout 2025, the University made steady strides toward the future through a series of tangible achievements ranging from fostering a culture of innovation among students, active participation in international forums, and adopting modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence to serve education and entrepreneurship.
Academic and Research Achievements
The University’s halls witnessed numerous challenges, which it overcame with confidence and competence, culminating in the registration of 100 patents—a landmark achievement for the sons and daughters of Hadhramout. This milestone highlights the spirit of innovation and underscores the ability of youth to contribute to building a knowledge-based economy.
International Ranking
The University maintained its global presence as its President, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Khanbash, participated in the QS Arab Universities Forum 2025, held in Muscat in October 2025.
Additionally, the University continued its active involvement in the YHELD international project, aimed at advancing higher education development.
Academic Accreditation Agreement
The Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery program at the University earned national academic accreditation during a ceremony sponsored by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Khaled Al-Wasabi, in October 2025.
First Entrepreneurship Hackathon
In November 2025, Hadhramout Governor, Mr. Mabkhout Mubarak Bin Madi, inaugurated the First Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hackathon, organized by the University through the Vice Presidency for Student Affairs.
The Governor emphasized that this event “marks Hadhramout University’s position at the forefront of the scientific and creative scene.”
Entrepreneurship Support Center
During the hackathon’s opening activities, the University launched the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Support Center, whose mission is to empower students and graduates through services such as a business incubator, a productive units pavilion, and a funding mechanism for entrepreneurial projects.
Strategic Partnerships
Several Memoranda of Understanding were signed during the event with the Hadhramout Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Al-Amal Foundation for Training and Entrepreneurship, and the Small and Micro Enterprise Development Agency to coordinate efforts in training, capacity building, and supporting entrepreneurial ventures.
Artificial Intelligence and Capacity Building
Despite challenges, studies indicate that AI tools—particularly ChatGPT—are being utilized at Hadhramout University to enhance education and innovation.
Seminars and Workshops
In November 2025, the University’s Student Political Forum organized a specialized legal seminar on “The Legal Framework for Combating Money Laundering.”
Hackathon-related activities also included a seminar on “Artificial Intelligence in Entrepreneurship and Innovation,” reflecting the University’s commitment to keeping pace with technological advancements and their practical applications.
Challenges and Future Path
Infrastructure Challenges:
Academic research shows that full integration of AI at Hadhramout University still faces obstacles, notably financial constraints, insufficient technological resources, and limited training on effective use of these tools.
Therefore, the University is working to enhance inclusion and reduce the digital divide among its students. The University Presidency has proposed creating a framework to ensure comprehensive and equitable integration of AI solutions in higher education, considering structural conditions and local context.
