As part of efforts to strengthen international academic partnerships, the high-level Yemeni academic delegation—comprising presidents of eight universities—continued its official program in the Chinese capital with an important visit to China University of Petroleum in Beijing, one of the leading institutions specializing in energy and engineering sciences.

The delegation, accompanied by Dr. Mohamed Al-Ahmadi, Cultural Advisor at the Yemeni Embassy in Beijing, was officially welcomed by senior university officials, led by University President Professor Jin Yan and Vice President Professor Zhang Guangqing.

The visit featured productive discussions that resulted in a preliminary agreement on a strategic partnership, with a key focus on exploring the possibility of establishing a regional petroleum research center at Hadhramout University.

In a dedicated bilateral meeting for this initiative, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash, Hadhramout University President, met with Professor Zhang Guangqing, Vice President of China University of Petroleum. Dr. Khanbash expressed the university’s full readiness to host the center, noting that it would be the third of its kind in the Arab region, following similar centers in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Both parties agreed to hold an urgent virtual meeting in October, bringing together leadership and specialists from both universities to discuss the practical and detailed steps for launching the center.

Additionally, an extended meeting was held between the Yemeni university leaders and the leadership of China University of Petroleum, during which current and future areas of cooperation were reviewed.

The meeting resulted in tangible outcomes, most notably the agreement to draft and formalize several academic and scientific cooperation agreements between China University of Petroleum and the participating Yemeni universities.

These agreements are scheduled to be officially signed next month by Dr. Mohamed Al-Ahmadi, Cultural Advisor in Beijing, to activate their implementation.

China University of Petroleum also announced its intention to establish a dedicated center for Yemen to support energy-related studies and scientific research, serving as a platform for specialized training and academic collaboration.

These initiatives align with the broader strategy of Yemeni universities to build a wide network of international partnerships aimed at advancing higher education and scientific research, and providing enhanced opportunities for Yemeni students and researchers.
