The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Hadhramout University held a special ceremony today to recognize outstanding students across various academic levels, alongside a distinguished group of faculty members, teaching assistants, and administrative staff, in appreciation of their academic excellence and exceptional contributions throughout the academic year.
The event commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a speech delivered by Mr. Mohammed Sheikh Al-Saqqaf on behalf of the Student Council. He emphasized the importance of such recognition in motivating students to pursue academic excellence and achievement, while expressing appreciation for the faculty’s continuous support and encouragement of student engagement in academic and extracurricular activities.
In his remarks, Dr. Adnan Abdullah Bakarman, Vice Dean for Student Affairs, highlighted the vital role of students in academic life and community-oriented scientific activities. He stressed that achievement and distinction result from dedication, perseverance, and commitment. He also encouraged students to make the most of educational opportunities and student activities, demonstrate responsibility and institutional loyalty, and contribute actively to enhancing the faculty’s academic environment.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Hassan, Vice Dean for Quality Assurance, Development, and Community Service, reviewed the faculty’s ongoing preparations for seeking academic accreditation for the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Program. He emphasized that accreditation is a collective responsibility requiring participation from all faculty members and underscored the important role students play in supporting quality assurance and accreditation efforts.
In his keynote address, Prof. Saleh Awadh Bahoul, Dean of the Faculty, praised the faculty’s academic and research achievements and commended the efforts of students who attained top academic rankings through hard work and perseverance. He stated:
“Honoring outstanding students is not merely a celebration of grades and examination results. It is a recognition of diligence, discipline, and perseverance. True excellence is measured not only by academic achievement, but also by the knowledge, ethics, responsibility, and future service graduates will provide to their communities and country.”
He further acknowledged the essential contributions of faculty members, teaching assistants, and administrative and technical staff, stressing that institutional success is the result of collective effort and teamwork.
Opening of the Scientific Exhibition and World Pharmacists Day Activities
Coinciding with the recognition ceremony, the Dean inaugurated the scientific exhibition organized by the Department of Pharmacy in celebration of World Pharmacists Day. The exhibition was held under the patronage of the faculty administration and in collaboration with the Student Council at the faculty’s campus in Falak.
During a tour of the exhibition, Prof. Bahoul visited its various sections and received presentations from participating students and organizers on their scientific projects and pharmaceutical awareness displays. He expressed pride in the creativity, innovation, and organization demonstrated by the students, encouraging them to translate their academic achievements into “beneficial knowledge, a humanitarian profession, and sincere service to society.”
Scientific Symposium on Clinical Pharmacy
The celebrations also featured a virtual scientific symposium conducted via Zoom under the title:
“Clinical Pharmacy: From Global Practice to Future Prospects in Yemen.”
The symposium explored several key themes, including:
- Pharmacovigilance and its role in enhancing patient safety.
- The concept of clinical pharmacy and the pharmacist’s role in healthcare delivery.
- International experiences and academic education in clinical pharmacy.
- The current status, challenges, and future prospects of clinical pharmacy practice in Yemen.
The symposium was presented by a distinguished group of specialists and researchers, including:
- Dr. Ahmed Saleh Ba Wazir, Director of Pharmacovigilance at the Supreme Board of Drugs and Medical Appliances.
- Dr. Saeed Obeid Al-Fadhli, Head of the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Hadhramout University.
- Dr. Anwar Mohsen Bin Ali Al-Haj, Clinical Pharmacy Researcher and Master’s Student at Cairo University.
- Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Maari, Researcher and holder of a Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
At the conclusion of the ceremony and accompanying activities, commemorative shields and certificates were awarded to top-performing students, while faculty members, staff, and contributors were honored in recognition of their dedication and valuable contributions to the success of the faculty’s academic and celebratory events.
