Governor of Hadhramout, Mr. Mabkhout Mubarak Bin Madi, met today with the leadership of Hadhramout University in the city of Mukalla, headed by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash. The meeting focused on the university’s current status and the progress of the academic year 2025–2026, during which the university welcomed approximately 4,000 new students across its various faculties.
The governor was briefed by the university president on the outcomes of recent external visits and participations by the university’s leadership and specialists, which reflected significant advancements in academic and research domains.
Dr. Khanbash highlighted his participation in the QS Arab Region Forum held in Muscat, Oman, which concluded on October 17, 2025, with the presence of the Omani Minister of Higher Education and presidents of Arab universities. The forum addressed the future of higher education and the skills required in the age of artificial intelligence. Hadhramout University was honored at the event for its academic and research excellence and its advancement in the QS Rankings for 2026—an achievement that underscores its commitment to quality, innovation, and aligning education with labor market needs.

The university president also referred to the visit of Hadhramout University’s delegation, as part of a group of Yemeni university presidents, to the People’s Republic of China. The visit aimed to strengthen academic and research cooperation and included meetings with the China Scholarship Council and several universities and research centers.
Governor Bin Madi praised the university’s tangible progress in education, research, and international engagement, which has elevated the university’s and Hadhramout’s profile on global platforms. He particularly commended the university’s visits to the Russian Federation, China, and its participation in the scientific conference in Oman, as well as its achievement in obtaining the QS Ranking certificate, which has enhanced its standing in the higher education sector.
The governor reaffirmed the full support of the local authority for the university’s efforts, emphasizing that Hadhramout and Seiyun Universities are beacons of knowledge. He pledged to provide all necessary support to advance their academic standards and to assist their leadership, faculty, and staff.
The meeting was attended by Vice Presidents of the University: Prof. Dr. Abdullah Babair (Academic Affairs), Prof. Dr. Salem Al-Obathani (Student Affairs), and Dr. Salem Bamsaud (Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research).
