Hadhramout University, represented by its President, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash, held a virtual meeting today via Zoom with the Vice President of China University of Petroleum to discuss the implementation details of a project aimed at establishing a specialized Chinese research center at Hadhramout University. The meeting, attended by Dr. Mohammed Al-Ahmadi, Cultural Attaché at Yemen’s Embassy in China, resulted in preliminary approval from the Chinese side to engage in joint cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations through providing assistance and necessary guidance.
Both parties agreed to initiate the first phase of the project through clear work streams, including arranging a visit by the President of Hadhramout University to China University of Petroleum to discuss the project in depth, review available laboratories and technologies, and train and qualify academic staff by sending them to the Chinese university. This will enable them to learn the process of establishing the center, explore modern laboratory technologies, and expand the scope of relations between the two universities in scientific research, student and researcher exchange. The discussions will also involve major Chinese companies to ensure essential and sustainable support for this vital center.
Following the meeting, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash emphasized the importance of this project, describing it as a qualitative leap for Hadhramout University. He stated: “We are not merely seeking to establish a center, but to lay a solid foundation for specialized scientific research in a vital sector such as petroleum. Cooperation with China University of Petroleum opens broad horizons for attracting international expertise and localizing modern technology, which will benefit our staff and students and contribute to serving the national economy.”
For his part, Dr. Mohammed Al-Ahmadi, Cultural Attaché at Yemen’s Embassy in China, expressed his appreciation for Hadhramout University’s pioneering initiative to establish this Chinese research center, saying: “Hadhramout University has demonstrated its genuine readiness to strengthen educational and research relations with Chinese universities. This step represents a model for building academic bridges, and we at the embassy will provide all possible support to ensure the success of this strategic partnership that serves the future of higher education in Yemen.”
The meeting was attended by senior officials from Hadhramout University, including Prof. Dr. Salem Faraj Bamsoud, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research; Prof. Dr. Abdullah Ahmed Baradi, Faculty Dean of Engineering and Petroleum; Dr. Lutfi Saeed Bin Dahman, Director of the International Cooperation Center; Dr. Khaled Saeed Bajaa’lah, Head of the Petroleum Engineering Department; and Eng. Arwa Salem Barhoum, Teaching Assistant at the Petroleum Engineering Department. From the Chinese side, the attendees included the Vice President of China University of Petroleum and the Faculty Head of Continuing Education.
