The committee formed to commemorate the two late academics, Prof. Ahmed Omar Bashamous and Prof. Abdulrahman Mohammed Bamtaraf, convened this morning under the chairmanship of Prof. Mohamed Khanbash, President of Hadhramout University.
During the meeting, committee members presented several contributors who expressed their willingness to write about the lives and accomplishments of the two deceased professors. It was agreed that two separate books would be published, each compiling all letters of condolence, along with a curated selection of the scholars’ research and academic studies. The volumes will also include writings and reflections from colleagues and relatives who knew them, and will be released during the memorial ceremony.
The attendees also agreed to task the families of the two late professors with providing comprehensive biographical files containing photographs, information, and personal and academic documents that would enrich the content of the planned publications.
Dr. Khanbash stated that the University Council had approved naming two major lecture halls in the colleges where the professors had taught—namely, the College of Administrative Sciences and the College of Engineering—after the deceased academics, in recognition of their distinguished academic careers and their contributions to advancing education in the governorate.
This meeting comes as part of a series of preparations aimed at honoring the memory of the two late scholars, who are considered pioneers of academic work in Hadhramout. These efforts are expected to form part of a lasting legacy that preserves their stature within the university and the broader academic community.
