The specialized training program on the use of artificial intelligence in scientific research is currently underway at the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center, led by Dr. Suheer Al-Hadhrami.
The Director of the Center, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Bahashwan, stated that the intensive eight-hour program targets a broad segment of academics, including postgraduate students, researchers, and faculty members. He explained that the program aims to bring about a qualitative shift in participants’ research competencies by integrating cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies into the research process in an efficient and ethical manner.
He added that the program seeks to empower participants to accelerate various stages of scientific research and enhance its overall quality by equipping them with practical skills for using a range of advanced intelligent tools. The training also emphasizes raising awareness of the ethical frameworks and challenges associated with the academic application of these emerging technologies.
Prof. Dr. Bahashwan noted that the initial training sessions covered several hands-on modules, including foundational concepts and applications, a comprehensive introduction to artificial intelligence and its transformative role in supporting scientific research, as well as essential skills such as intensive practice in prompt engineering and contextual structuring—both of which are crucial for obtaining accurate and professional outputs from AI tools.
Participants were also introduced to advanced research tools through practical demonstrations of leading platforms, including Perplexity for intelligent search, Scite for source evaluation, ChatPDF for document analysis, and Phrasy for academic paraphrasing, among others.
On the second day, Dr. Suheer will present an in-depth analysis of how artificial intelligence can be used in interpreting research findings and presenting them in innovative and effective formats. She will also address ethical considerations, discuss challenges and concerns related to the academic use of artificial intelligence, and explore its future prospects in scientific environments.
It is worth noting that this program comes in response to the growing need to keep pace with the rapid technological transformation sweeping the global research sector, and to empower Arab researchers to employ these tools confidently and professionally, thereby contributing to the advancement of knowledge production and improving its overall efficiency.
