The Continuing Education Unit at Hadhramout University organized a series of scientific and awareness-raising activities yesterday aimed at promoting health education and expanding public knowledge. The events were conducted in collaboration with the Outstanding Students Charity Fund Foundation and the Medical Excellence Pulse Forum, including an educational seminar entitled “Mental Health.”
The seminar aimed to highlight the importance of mental health, raise awareness of the need to prioritize psychological well-being, explore the most common mental health challenges and effective coping strategies, and enhance understanding of the concept of mental health and its significance in everyday life.
During the seminar, Ms. Nada Bin Zaidan presented an overview of mental health and its vital role in an individual’s life. She discussed its contribution to achieving psychological and social well-being, managing the pressures of daily life, and influencing personal behavior, family and social relationships, as well as an individual’s ability to learn, work, and be productive. She also emphasized the important role of families and communities in supporting mental well-being.
She further addressed the importance of fostering positive communication, listening attentively to individuals’ concerns and challenges, recognizing psychological and behavioral changes, and encouraging people to seek professional support whenever necessary.
In addition, Ms. Bin Zaidan highlighted the role of society and educational, healthcare, and media institutions in promoting mental health awareness. She emphasized that supporting mental health is a shared responsibility between families and communities and is essential for building more stable individuals and a more informed and cohesive society.
The seminar also featured a session on the impact of technology on mental health, presented by Ms. Arwa Badhawi. She examined how technology and social media influence psychological well-being, noting the opportunities they provide for communication, learning, access to information, and psychological support, while also addressing the challenges associated with excessive or unbalanced use.
Ms. Badhawi further underscored the importance of mindful technology use, effective time management for electronic devices, reducing constant exposure to negative content and social comparisons, and maintaining a healthy balance between digital engagement, face-to-face interactions, physical activity, and adequate sleep. She stressed the need to promote awareness of healthy technology practices in order to maximize its benefits while minimizing potential adverse effects.
This seminar forms part of the ongoing efforts of the Continuing Education Unit at the Faculty of Nursing, Hadhramout University, to implement scientific and educational activities that enhance health knowledge, strengthen community engagement, and provide students and interested participants with access to programs addressing priority health issues.
The event also reflects the Unit’s commitment to diversifying its educational programs by incorporating psychological and social dimensions alongside medical and nursing topics, thereby promoting a more comprehensive approach to healthcare.
The seminar was held under the generous patronage of Prof. Abdullah Saeed Al-Hanashi, Dean of the Nursing Faculty at Hadhramout University, as part of broader efforts to advance standards of performance and excellence within the healthcare sector.
