Hadhramout University, in partnership with the Selah Development Foundation and the Volunteers Foundation, has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the dangers of drug abuse and qat consumption. The initiative forms part of the University’s broader awareness program aimed at increasing understanding of the health, social, and legal risks associated with these phenomena and strengthening preventive measures among students.
The first awareness lecture was held at the University Housing Colleges Complex, bringing together specialists who addressed the health, legal, and societal dimensions of drug abuse and qat use, as well as strategies for preventing their spread within the community.
During the event, Major Waddah Omar Bazoumah, Deputy Director of the Hadhramout Coast Anti-Drug Administration, presented an overview of the legal implications of drug-related offenses and examined the broader impact of narcotics on society.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ayman Omar Badhrous, a specialist in respiratory diseases and a presenter of medical awareness programs, discussed the health consequences of addiction, highlighting its detrimental effects on physical and mental well-being.
The lecture also featured a presentation by Mr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Attas, who outlined approaches to strengthening community resilience and promoting preventive awareness as key tools in protecting young people from substance abuse.
The campaign reflects the ongoing partnership between Hadhramout University and participating development organizations to reinforce the University’s role in public education and awareness. It aims to encourage healthy and responsible behaviors among students while contributing to the protection of young people and reducing the harmful consequences associated with drug abuse and qat consumption.
Through such initiatives, Hadhramout University continues to demonstrate its commitment to community engagement, student well-being, and the promotion of a healthy educational environment that supports academic success and responsible citizenship
