The Continuing Education Unit at the Nursing Faculty, Hadhramout University, organized a training course yesterday for first-level students entitled “Reading Medical Prescriptions.” The course was delivered by Dr. Ali Bajamzah, Director of the Continuing Education Unit.

The training aimed to strengthen students’ skills and knowledge in properly interpreting medical prescriptions, familiarizing them with their components and the principles of accurate prescription reading. This is intended to help reduce medication errors and promote patient safety in clinical practice.

The course provided a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of medical prescriptions, including commonly used abbreviations and symbols, dosage instructions, and routes of administration. Participants also engaged in practical exercises involving the analysis and interpretation of various prescription samples.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Abdullah Al-Hanashi, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, stated:

“At the Faculty, we are committed to equipping our students from their first academic level with essential practical skills that align with the demands of the healthcare profession. Reading medical prescriptions is a fundamental competency every nurse must master to ensure patient safety and deliver high-quality nursing care. We will continue to organize specialized training courses of this kind as part of the Continuing Education Unit’s development plan.”

Participants emphasized the importance of such specialized training programs in preparing them for professional practice from the early stages of their studies. They noted that these activities help bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application in the field of nursing.

The course forms part of the Faculty’s ongoing efforts to strengthen professional competencies, enhance clinical preparedness, and ensure that nursing students acquire the knowledge and practical skills necessary to provide safe and effective patient care.
