Second-year students from the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Hadhramout University recently visited the Office of Labor and Social Affairs. The visit culminated in a tentative agreement to design a summer training program that addresses students’ specific needs, aiming to narrow the gap between academic study and employment demands.
The visit was supervised by Ms. Wasima Omar Muhaid and conducted under the guidance of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Awadh Barashid, and the Head of the Department, Dr. Iman Omar Al-Lahmadi. It included an extensive meeting with the Deputy Director of the Office, Mr. Omar Al-Amoodi, and Ms. Hikma Al-Shaeebi, who welcomed the student delegation and commended the faculty’s commitment to preparing well-qualified graduates.
An open discussion was held focusing on key issues of concern to students before graduation, particularly mechanisms for aligning training programs with labor market needs, as well as the skills and professional standards required by official institutions from graduates of sociology and social work programs.
The meeting concluded with a decision to draft a joint memorandum of understanding between the department and the office, establishing groundwork for the summer training program. The Department of Sociology and Social Work will monitor the program’s implementation and results.
The students and supervisors expressed their appreciation to the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Awadh Barashid; the Head of the Department, Dr. Iman Omar Al-Lahmadi; Ms. Wasima Omar Muhaid; and the administration of the Office of Labor and Social Affairs, as well as all those who contributed to the success of the visit.
