Dr. Al‑Rabbaki Briefs FAO Delegation on Preparations for the Tilapia Aquaculture Project

Yesterday, the Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Marine Biology at Hadhramout University, Prof. Dr. Khaled Awad Al-Rabbaki, received a delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), led by Engineer Ibrahim Al-Qudsi, Senior Water Resources Engineer at the organization.

The visit aimed to review the latest developments and finalize the arrangements related to the launch of the tilapia fingerling breeding and aquaculture project. The project’s Technical Director and General Coordinator, Dr. Ahmed Balkadi, delivered a detailed presentation on the final stages of the ongoing preparations in anticipation of commencing aquaculture and breeding operations at the designated sites in Hadhramout Governorate.

During the visit, the delegation toured the university’s fish farm and affiliated scientific laboratories. They also received an explanation from the Head of Laboratories regarding the role of these facilities in strengthening students’ practical skills and contributing to community service.

The project is scheduled to commence in the coming days, upon the completion of documentation procedures by the organization and the signing of the project contract.

The meeting was attended by the GEF Project Coordinator in Socotra, Dr. Adnan Al‑Sanawi; FAO Fisheries Expert, Dr. Abdul Salam Al‑Koori; Director of the FAO Office in Hadhramout, Dr. Nabil Mohammed Nour Al‑Din; Consultant for the Wadi Hajar Project, Engineer Mohammed Bajaseer; as well as the Director General of Laboratories, Mr. Nabil Al‑Hudhaifi, and faculty member Mr. Munir Bamakhrema.
