Hadhramout University and FAO Sign an Agreement to Support Sustainable Watershed Management in Yemen.

Hadhramout University, represented by the Environmental Sciences and Marine Biology Faculty, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) signed a cooperation agreement aimed at supporting the sustainable management of watersheds through enhancing governance, resilience, and regenerative agriculture in Yemen.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of the President of Hadhramout University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Khanbash.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Marine Biology will provide specialized technical services and implement a training program for beneficiaries to support watershed management activities until 31 October 2026.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the university by Prof. Dr. Khaled Al‑Rubaki, Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Marine Biology, and on behalf of FAO by Mr. Ibrahim Al‑Qudsi, FAO’s Senior Water Resources Engineer in Yemen.

During the signing ceremony, both parties presented detailed overviews of their respective roles and activities, including research and scientific studies, environmental work, and other related fields such as apiculture at the university. They also highlighted FAO’s role in providing essential support to meet national needs, whether through research projects derived from the high quality of studies conducted at Hadhramout University or through encouraging farmers to develop certain food industries.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Nabil Nour Al‑Din, FAO Representative in Hadhramout; Prof. Dr. Khaled Bawahidi, Director of the Center for Environmental Studies and Water Resources; Eng. Mohammed Bajaseer, FAO’s Consultant for the Wadi Hajar Project, along with several leaders and representatives from the faculty.
