The President of Hadhramout University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Khanbash, met this morning in his office with a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) headed by Ms. Lina Al‑Safi, Coordinator of the Water Management and Irrigation Improvement Project in Yemen, to discuss ways of enhancing water security and reducing flood risks in light of climate change.
The meeting addressed the objectives and activities of the “Improving Water and Irrigation Management for Sustainability and Efficiency in Yemen (IWISE)” project, funded by the World Bank and implemented jointly by UNDP and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
The project primarily focuses on strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities to climate change in the Aden–Tuban Basin and Wadi Hajar in Hadhramout, contributing to improved irrigation water management and the promotion of environmental sustainability.
During the meeting, the University President highlighted the role of Hadhramout University’s research centers and the scientific and applied studies they provide in the service of the community and sustainable development. He also pointed to the strong presence of women within the university, noting that female students constitute approximately 42% of the university’s total student population.
