Deputy Minister of Agriculture Discusses Ways to Enhance Fisheries Sustainability at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences

The Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Marine Biology at Hadhramout University, Prof. Dr. Khaled AlRubaki, received this morning in his office a highlevel delegation that included Eng. Yoslam Saeed Babalghoum, Acting Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries for the Fisheries Planning and Investment Sector, and Mr. Jamal AlHoutali, representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the SFISH Program.

The meeting explored opportunities for strengthening cooperation in the fields of scientific research and the sustainable management of fisheries resources, while reviewing the faculty’s most prominent projects in these areas.

In this context, Dr. Ahmed Aidhah Bin Ali AlHaj, Technical Director and Coordinator of the project on the study of the distribution of rock lobster larvae and their habitats along the coasts of Hadhramout and AlMahrah, delivered a detailed presentation on the project, which is being implemented under the cooperation agreement signed this year between the faculty and UNDP. The presentation covered the project’s background, scientific objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes, drawing on examples from leading international experiences. The presentation was followed by an extensive discussion during which Dr. AlHaj responded to participants’ questions and inquiries.

The meeting also included virtual participation via Microsoft Teams from the management of the SFISH Program, represented by Ms. Karina Shibalova (Program Manager), Mr. Bilal AlShawoush (Operations Officer), Mr. Mohammed AlHattari (Program Coordinator), and Ms. Nora Hussein (Media Officer).

Also attending the meeting were Dr. Jaafar Omar Baomar, Benthic Habitats Specialist; Dr. Ahmed Ali Balqadi, Specialist in Experimental Design and Data Analysis; and a number of faculty members.
