Hadhramout University launched this morning the Fourth Training and Qualification Program for External Reviewers of academic programs at Yemeni higher education institutions, under the patronage of Prof. Amin Al-Qudsi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
During the opening ceremony, Prof. Abdullah Saleh Babair, Vice President of Hadhramout University for Academic Affairs, conveyed the greetings of the University President, Prof. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash, and welcomed the participating trainees, wishing them a fruitful and beneficial learning experience throughout the six-day program.
He encouraged the trainees to share the knowledge and expertise they gain during the program with their universities and future professional institutions, thereby contributing to the development of the higher education system and the continuous improvement of its quality.
For his part, Prof. Abdullah Bahashwan, Director of the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance at Hadhramout University, emphasized the importance of making full use of the knowledge and expertise provided throughout the program. He noted that academic accreditation has become a fundamental requirement for ensuring the quality of higher education institutions and improving their educational outcomes.
Meanwhile, Prof. Sawsan Bakhabirah, Chairperson of the Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council for Higher Education in Yemen, explained that the program forms part of efforts to implement external evaluation and review processes that contribute to strengthening confidence in higher education outcomes.
She added that the Council continues to work toward developing a national pool of qualified experts and external reviewers capable of supporting quality assurance and academic accreditation processes and advancing the standards of higher education at various levels. She also expressed her appreciation to Hadhramout University for hosting the fourth edition of the program.
As part of the first day’s activities, trainer Prof. Nadia Salam delivered the program’s first module, which addressed the criteria and procedures for selecting external reviewers, professional ethics in academic review, the importance of integrity and transparency, confidentiality and information protection, as well as the policies and requirements governing the external review process.
In the second module, trainer Prof. Huda Basaleem addressed the skills required for designing, evaluating, and developing academic programs, in addition to methodologies for continuous improvement and the enhancement of educational quality.
The sessions were followed by practical exercises designed to reinforce and apply the topics covered during the first day.
The following day’s program is scheduled to include a presentation on the documents and applications of the Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council, delivered by Prof. Salem Bassees, as well as sessions on quality assurance systems and self-assessment analysis, presented by Prof. Ahmed Balhareth.
