Faculty Overview

_

Hadhramout governorate and the Eastern Region in particular, and the Republic of Yemen in general, currently witness rapid growth in all aspects of life and that is reflected in the development throughout Yemen, and the share of the higher education has been great as universities and faculties have spread in many regions of the country.
The Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Marine Biology (CESMB) was established in 1996, as a foundation college at Hadhramout University (HU), and a qualitative faculty in Yemen in terms of its majors and relationships to the local environment of which marine environment is an important component. Today, CESMB has just become one of the noticeable landmarks at HU and a scientific source which contributes to the development through the great tasks it beholds in studying environmental sciences, exploiting fishery wealth and marine biology as well as controlling pollution in all its forms reaching to a healthy clean Yemeni environment.
Teaching process started at the beginning of the academic year 1997/1998 with two scientific departments: Environmental Sciences and Marine Biology which grant Bachelor degree. Within the development of the Faculty and due to the increasing numbers of companies and fish factories in Hadhramout and their need for more top qualified specialists in fish packing and manufacturing, a third scientific department (Department of Fish Processing Technology) was established in 2002/2003. However, the Department was renamed into the Department of Food and Fish Processing Technology in 2010 because of the market need.
Recently, the Faculty was supported by the project of improving the quality of the higher education (HEQIP / MoHESR) in Yemeni universities. The project was under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, and funded by the World Bank. The support is reflected in the development of the components and outcomes of the Department of Marine Biology (DMB) in order to enable the graduates to have knowledge, skills and professional practices that meet the needs of labor market, and to achieve the quality of the outcomes as well as obtain academic accreditation in the future so that the graduate is able to compete in the labor market locally, regionally and globally.
