Fourth-level students from the Department of Marine Biology, accompanied by several faculty and assistant staff members, carried out a scientific field visit to the marine environment in the city of Al‑Shihr on Friday, 8 November 2024. During the visit, the students conducted practical training on different types of fishing equipment and methods, and became familiar with the most commonly targeted fish species using these tools. The visit also included an explanation of examples of improper fishing practices and their negative impacts on the marine environment, as well as an overview of key regulations issued by the Ministry of Fisheries Wealth aimed at reducing harmful effects on marine life.
The students further learned about the various types of fishing vessels, their sizes, components, and production capacity. They were accompanied on this field visit by Dr. Jaafar bin Omar Baamer, Head of the Marine Biology Department, and Engineer Mustafa Salem Baridi, faculty member in the department.
This activity is part of the programs and plans of Environmental Sciences and Marine Biology Faculty to equip students with essential knowledge and practical experience, and to strengthen the link between academic learning, applied practice, and the job market.
