النبذة التعريفية الصيدلة
منذ إنشاء كلية الطب والعلوم الصحية في سبتمبر 1997م لم نقترح التسمية على الطب البشري وإنما أيضاً العلوم الصحية وعليه فقد أرتأت قيادة الكلية وبالتنسيق مع مكتب الصحة العامة والسكان بساحل حضرموت ضرورة العمل على إيجاد كوادر مؤهلة في علم الصيدلة يكونوا إضافة إلى العمل الصحي بالمحافظة والمحافظات المجاورة لذا فكان التفكير في إنشاء برنامج الصيدلة السريرية Pharm-D والذي يعد أول برنامج على مستوى الجامعات في اليمن وقد عقدت ورشة عمل بمشاركة خبراء في هذا المجال في مايو 2012م وقد أوصت الورشة بفتح برنامج Pharm-D وقد تم إستقبال الدفعة الأولى في سبتمبر من عام 2012م.

الرؤية
الأهداف
- تخريج الصيدلاني المهيأ نفسيا وسلوكيا للعمل بكفاءة في مجال رعاية الصحة العلاجية والوقائية والتأهيلية.
- تكوين الشخصية المتكاملة للخريج وتنمية قدرته على التحصيل والتحليل والاستنتاج وقدرته على حل المشاكل الصحية في مجتمعه والتفكير المستقل واتخاذ القرار المناسب.
- تنمية وتطوير الخريجين من Pharm-D من خلال العمل وبرامج التعليم المستمر.
- تنشيط وتوجيه البحث العلمي نحو المشاكل الصحية في المنطقة وتسخير نتائجه ذات العلاقة بالمجتمع.
- المشاركة الفعالة بواسطة طلبتها وفريقها الأكاديمي وتقديم وتطوير الخدمات الصحية المباشرة بهدف التنمية الاجتماعية.
- زرع القيم والمنجزات الإنسانية الأصيلة للحضارة العربية الإسلامية في نفس الخريج كحافز للعمل في بناء المستقبل وتنمية الروح والإيمان بمستقبل الأمّة العربية لجعله قادرا على مواجهة المشاكل في المتجمع والتغلب عليها.

اللغة العربية ١:
سيؤدي هذا المساق إلى ضبط الطالب للمفردات والتركيبات اللغوية ضبطًا جيدًا من حيث النطق والكتابة، وإلى تجاوز كثير من الأخطاء الشائعة في الاستعمال، ويتناول المساق المهارات اللغوية العامة، والقواعد الإملائية والنحوية الأساسية، بالإضافة إلى التذوق الفني للنصوص العربية المختلفة، يهدف المساق إلى تمكين مهارة الطالب لغويا مما يكسبه اداء مهني جيد.
English Language I:
English 1 is a reading, speaking, listening, and writing course designed to consolidate students’ knowledge of English and to improve their oral and written communication. Its units cover a wide range of common grammatical structures such as (forming questions, simple past tense, expressions of advice and obligations, future arrangements, describing people, expressions of intentions, wishes, comparison between past simple and present perfect, etc.) and useful various vocabulary used in different situations such as that used in describing (leisure activities, feelings, daily routine, jobs, dates, special occasions, physical appearance, holidays, dreams ambitions , etc.). It also gives students different reading texts that include the application of all the grammatical structures and vocabulary learned in each unit to develop their grammar, lexicon and reading comprehension skills. Furthermore, it provides students with the correct pronunciation of grammatical structures and vocabulary of each unit along with drills for developing their listening skills.
Botany:
This course aims to relate the plants to pharmacy which enable the student to understand and apply the botanical concepts and applications in pharmacy practice. This course studies the structure and function of plant cell organelles and plant tissues. Understanding morphology, anatomical structure and function of the different plant parts, including root, stem, leaf and flower, seed and fruit, with an explanation of characteristics and modifications of each part. An overview of the plant kingdom and concerned with monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous families. Transport processes of water, minerals, sugar and processes of transpiration and respiration that occurring in the plant. Metabolic processes in the plant cell, and photosynthesis at the chemical level.
Pharmaceutical Calculation I:
This courses introduce the student to the knowledge and skills of fundamental mathematical pharmaceutical calculations utilized in measurement principles and the term of expression of the concentration terms and the conversion between system of measurements, also the knowledge of the SI system for the weights and volumes, and the interpretation of medical prescriptions and calculation of doses required also the abbreviations that used in the prescriptions, and the errors in the prescriptions, and the calculations related to the oral solutions. The course enables the students to calculate the pharmaceutical calculations correctly.
Physical Pharmacy I:
The course aims to relate the physics to pharmacy theoretically and practically which enable the students to understand and apply the physical pharmacy properly. The course is concerned with the study of relationship between physics and pharmacy, definition of matter, intermolecular forces, states of matter with comparison with the states of matter, drugs and drugs products as matters. The course also deals with the physical characteristics of drugs and drug products along all states of matter.
Introduction to Pharmacy:
This course provides a background and introduction to the profession of pharmacy, the course aims to introduce pharmacy as a science and as a profession to the newly admitted pharmacy students. Thus, this course enables the students to understand and acquire the skills necessary for continuing pharmacy education and to realize the areas where they can practice their job in the future, it also covers general topics related to pharmacy including pharmaceutical and medical abbreviations used in practice, the prescription and its anatomy.
Zoology:
This course provides undergraduate students the basic knowledge, understanding and skills about the biology of animals. It aims to describe the life and its origin, cellular and molecular aspects of life and different vital processes and the systems responsible for performing them. It also equips the students with practical activities related to the field of biology that will serve their future studies.
اللغة العربية ٢:
يتناول هذا المساق الأساليب العامة في اللغة العربية وأنماطها، وأنواعها، ومكونات كل أسلوب منها، وكيفية كتابة الأعداد في العربية وقراءتها، والتعريف بالكتابة الوظيفية وأنماطها المختلفة، وطرائق البحث عن الكلمات العربية في معاجم الألفاظ والمعاني، ودراسة بعض النصوص الشعرية في مختلف عصور الأدب العربي، وسيتمكن الطالب في هذا المساق من فهم مفردات اللغة وتراكيبها المختلفة، ومجالاتها المتعددة، وضوابطها النطقية والكتابية. والهدف من تدريس المقرر اكساب الطالب التذوق الفني الادبي والمعرفة الكاملة بالتعامل مع المعاجم، فضلا عن اكساب مهارات الكتابة الادبية والوظيفية.
English Language II:
English 2 is intended to improve and develop the reading, speaking, listening and writing skills, students have acquired from English 1course. Its topics cover a wide range of common grammatical structures such as (the use of articles, quantifiers, the use of countable and uncountable nouns, present tense, requests, permissions, probability, gerund, participles, passive, perfect tenses. conditional clauses, etc.) and vocabulary used in different situations such as that used in (describing geographical areas, description of things, health, accidents, hobbies, etc.). These grammatical structures and vocabulary are included into different reading topics to improve students’ reading comprehension skills. This course also provides students with the correct pronunciation of the grammatical structures and vocabulary given in each unit along with drills for developing their listening skills.
Pharmaceutical Calculation II:
This course aims to provide the student with the knowledge and skills of calculations of the drug doses for pediatric and geriatric according to age, weight and body surface area (BSA), also the calculations related to dosage adjustment for renal and liver impairment patients, as well as the calculations interested to IV fluids and insulin dosage and heparin and vaccinations calculations. The course enables the students to calculate the required pharmaceutical calculations correctly.
Physical Pharmacy II:
The course is concerned with the fundamental knowledge and practice of the solubility of drugs and chemicals, dissolution process, diffusion, rheology of pharmaceuticals, surface tension phenomena, surfactants, adsorption process, and stability of drugs and drug products as well as the study of incompatibility of drugs. The course is aim to provide understanding and applications of these phenomena and processes pharmaceutically in an efficient manner.
General Chemistry:
This course aims to provide the student with the basic and advance knowledge of the chemistry which can be applied pharmaceutically. It study the elementary principles of chemistry, atomic structure, electron configuration in atoms, four quantum Numbers, periodic classification of elements, general properties of periodic table (atomic radius, metallic property, electronegativity, ionization energy, electron affinity), chemical bonds (ionic, covalent, coordinate, metallic) , intermolecular attraction forces (London, dipole-dipole, hydrogen), organic and inorganic compounds, Lewis structures, balance of chemical equations (oxidation-reduction reaction, and mathematical method for non-redox reaction), which enable the student to understand and apply these concepts correctly.
مهارات الحاسوب:
يهتم هذا المساق بتعريف الطالب بالمهارات والمعارف الأساسية اللازمة للتعامل مع الحاسب الآلي لتمكنه من استخدام الأنظمة والتطبيقات والخدمات الأساسية كقاعدة معلوماتية ومعرفية لاستخدامه في مجال تخصصه وإمكانية التعامل مع أي تطبيقات أو خدمات قد تقدم للطالب في مقررات أخرى بحسب مجال تخصصه يشمل المقرر التعرف على مكونات تقنية المعلومات و نظام التشغيل ويندوز و برنامج لمعاجلة النصوص وبرنامج الجدول الإلكترونية و برنامج العروض التقديمية بالإضافة إلى مهارات التعامل مع الإنترنت واستخدام البريد الإلكتروني ويرافق المساق القيام ببعض التطبيقات في المعمل. يهدف المقرر إلى اكساب الطالب مهارة توظيف الحاسب الآلي في مرحلته التعليمية وحياته العملية مستقبلا.
مهارات الإتصال:
يتناول هذا المقرر، مفهوم الاتصال وأهميته وأنواعه وعناصره وخصائصه وأغراضه ومقوماته، ومعوقاته، ومفهوم التواصل مع الذات. وموضوعي الاتصال اللفظي وغير اللفظي وأهميته وأدواته، والمهارات الذاتية في الاتصال، ومهارات الاتصال في بيئة العمل مما يكسب الطالب مهارات التواصل مع الاخرين بفعالية، ومهارة التكييف مع بيئة العمل المحيطة، فضلا عن اكسابه مهارات العرض والطرح في الشرح والنقاش.
Analytical Chemistry I:
The course is concerned with the fundamental knowledge, understanding and practice about the basic principles of the qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis including, acid-base reactions, redox reaction, complexometric, precipitimetric and gravimetric analysis. The course also covers the applications of these principles and methods on pharmaceutical compounds and products. The course is aims to make the student able to analyze efficiently the drugs, chemicals and drug products.
Physiology I:
This course of physiology is aims to provide the undergraduate students a comprehensive knowledge of the concept of physiology. It studies the physiology concepts, homeostasis, blood composition and function, hemostasis, electrophysiology of the cell membrane, skeletal muscle contraction, autonomic nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, and lymphatic system, which enable the students to understand the pharmacology and pathology.
Organic Chemistry I:
This course covers an introduction to the chemistry of carbon, the concepts of bonding, structures, properties, reactions and classification of organic compounds by functional groups as well as preparation, naming of hydrocarbons (alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes), alkyl halides, cyclic aliphatic compounds, alcohols, phenols and ethers, in addition to study of introduction of stereochemistry. The course is aims to make the base of medicinal chemistry which enable the students to properly understand and apply the medicinal chemistry pharmaceutically.
Anatomy:
This course studies the structures of human body grossly, to understand standard reference position of body that used to describe the location of structures, describe the major groups of planes pass through the body in anatomical position, anatomical terms of description location of organs, body parts and body systems which includes digestive, urinary, cardiovascular, genital and nervous systems. The course is aims to correlate the anatomy to all pharmacological processes, which enable the students to understand and rationalize the clinical applications of drugs.
Biochemsistry I:
The course consists of two parts; Theoretical part deals with study of the types of biochemical compounds, including carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, vitamins and minerals, and the changes to which are undergone to in the body. The practical part that interested in giving students skills for detection of these molecules in given samples. The course is aims to correlate the biochemistry to all pharmacology, which enable the students to understand and rationalize the clinical applications of drugs.

يُدَرَّس هذا المساق لجميع طلاب جامعة حضرموت ويتناول: الثقافة والحضارة، وعلاقتهما ببعض، والثقافة الإسلامية وخصائصها، والإسلام عقيدة وشريعة، والغزو الفكري وخطورته على الإسلام والمسلمين، والإسلام وقضية فلسطين.
يهدف المقرر إلى ربط الطالب بثقافته الإسلامية فكرا وسلوكا.
Analytical Chemistry II:
The course is concerned with study of the basic principles of instrumental analytical techniques as chromatography techniques which include thin layer chromatography, paper chromatography, column chromatography, gas chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography and spectroscopy techniques including UV/visible spectroscopy, infra-red, atomic absorption, nuclear magnetic resonance, X-Ray diffractions regarding their mechanism, procedures and applications. The course is aims to make the student able to analyze efficiently the drugs, chemicals and drug products.
Physiology II:
The course aims to provide the undergraduate students a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the composition and physiological function of the following systems; the digestive system, central nervous system, endocrine system glands, urinary system, male reproductive system, and female reproductive system as well as the study of acid–base balance. The course enables the students to understand the pharmacology and pathology.
Organic Chemistry II:
The organic chemistry 2 course covers structures, properties, naming, reactions, preparation and classification of organic compounds according to their functional groups, these groups include aldehydes, ketones, thiols, amines, carboxylic acid and its derivatives (acid anhydrides, acid halides, amides and esters), as well as the study of aromatic and heterocyclic compounds. The course is aims to make the base of medicinal chemistry which enable the students to properly understand and apply the medicinal chemistry pharmaceutically.
Histology:
This course enables the student to correlate the histological features of the various body tissues to the related pharmacological concepts. The course is focus on both the common features of cells and its components and the individual specialization that reflect the unique functions within the body. Tissues are examined as groups of cells with common histological roles important in the maintenance of homeostasis that is essential to human health. The course also covers the principles of normal histological structure of different organs and various systems of the human body.
Biochemistry II:
The course aims to correlate the biochemistry to all pharmacology, which enable the students to understand and rationalize the clinical applications of drugs. The Theoretical part of this course deals study the metabolism of biochemical compounds, including carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and amino acids, and nucleic acids, as well as the regulator mechanisms of metabolic pathways. The practical part that interested in giving students skills for preserving of human samples as well as detection and investigation of some metabolic disorder biomarkers.

يُدَرَّس هذا المساق لجميع طلاب جامعة حضرموت ويتضمن: الفكر السياسي في الإسلام، وحقوق الإنسان في الإسلام، والإسلام والمرأة، والفكر الاقتصادي الإسلامي، والحديث عن بعض القضايا الاجتماعية والطبية ويعبر عنها بـ (النوازل). والهدف من تدريس المقرر اكساب الطالب المعرفة الكاملة للارتقاء بفكره نحو تعامل أفضل مع القضايا العصرية.
Pharmacology I:
The course provides the students with comprehensive knowledge about pharmacology, definitions, classification of drug groups, mechanisms of action of drugs, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs. The course also deals with the study of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of drugs affecting autonomic nervous system, skeletal muscles, eye and drugs used for alimentary system disorders. The course is aim to enable the student to understand the pharmacology of drugs plan provide efficient pharmacotherapy.
Microbiology I:
This required course introduces and provides the pharmacy students with major concepts of pharmaceutical microbiology, prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, the structural components of microorganisms and the functions of these components, the basic information of general bacteriology, the host-parasite relationship (normal flora, pathogen), modes of transmission and infection used by microbes. As well as understand the methods of sterilization and disinfection as well as antimicrobial agent and the mechanisms leading to resistance to anti-microbial agents. It is also give the pharmacy student’s practical skill in uses the different technique and basic identification methods to known the microorganism. The course is aim to enable the student to know the microbiological bases of the related diagnosis and therapy.
Pharmaceutics I:
This course is designed to help students to understand the principles and scope of pharmaceutics, dosage form design. The course deals with liquid dosage forms; definition, advantages, disadvantages, types, uses, applications, additives, methods of preparations, evaluation and stability. Covered dosage forms are pharmaceutical solutions, pharmaceutical suspensions and emulsions. The course is aim to enable the student to rationalize the dosage forms clinicaly and technically.
Pathology:
This course provides undergraduate students with the basic knowledge, facts, concepts, theories and terms in the field of pathology as well as understanding of the disease processes affecting the different systems, with particular reference to mechanisms and natural history of disease to help in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of diseases. The course is aim to enable the student to understand the pathology of diseases which provide efficient pharmacotherapy.
Immunology and Genetics:
This required course introduces and provides the pharmacy students with major concepts of immune system, its organs, cells and natural function of innate immunity (phagocytosis, complement system, interferon), and adaptive immunity (passive and active immunity), cell-mediated & humeral immune responses to prevent or limit infections by pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi. It provides the pharmacy students with knowledge and understanding diseases related to the immune system emphasizing the hypersensitivity reactions, autoimmunity and immunodeficiency diseases. The course is aim to enable the student to understand the immunological diseases which provide efficient pharmacotherapy.
Medicinal Chemistry I:
The course provides an introduction to chemistry of medicinal agents. The course also deals with the physicochemical properties, chemical synthesis, structure activity relationship, and metabolism of drugs affecting autonomic nervous system, skeletal muscles and drugs used for eye and alimentary system disorders. The course is aim to enable the student to apply the medicinally related chemical characteristics clinically and technically.
General Statistics:
This course is aims to qualify the students statistically as understanding and applications. It is focusing on basic concepts and principles of biostatistics, and application of these knowledge in analyzing researches, which enable the student to apply descriptive and inferential statistics principles on all pharmaceutically related applications. The course will be taught through an interactive lecture and practical exercises.
Pharmacology II:
The course deals with the study of definition, classes, pharmacokinetics, mechanism of action, pharmacological actions, side effects, drug interactions, clinical uses of drugs affecting respiratory system, cardiovascular system, and blood disorders as well as the study of analgesic drugs. The course is aim to enable the student to understand the pharmacology of drugs plan provide efficient pharmacotherapy.
Pharmaceutics II:
The course deals with study of solid dosage forms; definition, advantages, disadvantages, types, uses, applications, additives, methods of preparations, coating; definition, rational, types and method of coating, as well as the evaluation and stability of the studied solid dosage forms. Covered dosage forms are pharmaceutical tablets, capsules, powders, granules and suppositories. The course is aim to enable the student to rationalize the dosage forms clinicaly and technically.
Pharmacotherapy I:
This course covers the basic concepts of pharmacotherapy including definitions, design of the pharmactherapeutic plan, diseases pathophysiology, etiology, clinical presentations of a clinical case, rationale drug use, self-medication, alternative therapies, patient compliance, unnecessary drug therapy, and monitoring of efficacy and safety. The course also deals with study of these principles on drugs affecting autonomic nervous system, skeletal muscles, eye and drugs used for alimentary system disorders. The course is aim to enable the student to design the pharmacotherapy plan which provide efficient pharmaceutical care.
Medicinal Chemistry II:
The course deals with the study of chemical structures, chemical features, synthesis, structure activity relationship (SAR), and metabolism of drugs used for respiratory, cardiovascular systems, blood and endocrine glands disorders as well as analgesic drugs. The course is aim to enable the student to apply the medicinally related chemical characteristics clinically and technically.
Microbiology II:
This required course introduces and provides the pharmacy students with basic information of general virology, mycology and parasitology and provides undergraduate pharmacy students with the essential knowledge and understanding about different types of viruses, fungi, and parasites and the diseases caused by them. The course is aim to enable the student to know the microbiological bases of the related diagnosis and therapy.
Pharmacognosy I:
The course consists of basic principles of pharmacognosy, including definitions, scope of pharmacognosy, historical review of medicinal plants and natural products. It concerns about medicinal plants classification, geographical distribution, cultivation, collection and preparation, drying, processing and storage, standardization, adulteration of crude drugs. Detection major active constituents and use of medicinal plants. Also includes the macro- and micro-morphological characteristics of different plant organs (morphological and histological examination, and chemical identification, leaves, flowers, seeds, barks and woods). The course is aim to enable the students to comperhensively know and apply the pharmacognosy science from clinical and technical point of view.
Pharmaceutics III:
The course deals with the definition, advantages and disadvantages, applications, types, uses, excipients, methods of preparation and quality control testing of semisolid dosage forms (ointments, creams, pastes and gel) as well as pharmaceutical aerosols dosage form, ophthalmic preparations and parenteral dosage form. The course is aim to enable the student to rationalize the dosage forms clinicaly and technically.
Pharmacology III:
The course deals with the study of definition, classification, pharmacological actions, mechanism of action, efficacy, potency, adverse effects, drug interactions, and pharmacokinetics of drugs affecting central nervous system (CNS) and endocrine glands disorders. The course is aim to enable the student to understand the pharmacology of drugs plan provide efficient pharmacotherapy.
Pharmacognosy II:
The course includes the study of the most common and medicinally useful organized crude drugs including seeds, fruits, flowers, roots, rhizomes; their biological sources, synonyms, morphology, active phytoconstituents and medicinal use as well as study of the most common unorganized crude drugs; their biological sources, morphology, active phytoconstituents and medicinal. The course is aim to enable the students to comperhensively know and apply the pharmacognosy science from clinical and technical point of view.
Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics I:
This course introduces students to the basic concepts of biopharmaceutics including the study of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion; their definition, mechanism, factors affection the extent and rate of process with exemplification. The course also deals with the bioavailability and bioequivalence; their definition and assessment. The course is aim to enable the students to comperhensively know and apply the biopharmaceutical concepts from clinical and technical point of view.
Pharmacotherapy II:
This course will enable the pharmacy student to study the drugs affecting respiratory system, cardiovascular systems and blood disorders as well as analgesic drugs; their design the pharmactherapeutic plan, diseases pathophysiology, etiology, clinical presentations of a clinical case, rationale drug use, self-medication, alternative therapies, patient compliance, unnecessary drug therapy, and monitoring of efficacy and safety. The course is aim to enable the student to design the pharmacotherapy plan which provide efficient pharmaceutical care.
Medicinal Chemistry III:
The course deals with the study of chemical structures, chemical features, naming, synthesis, structure activity relationship (SAR), and metabolism of drugs of local anti-infective agents, preservatives, antifungals, antivirals and drugs for parasitic infections. The course is aim to enable the student to apply the medicinally related chemical characteristics clinically and technically.
Pharmaceutical Biotechnology:
The course aims to expose students to various topics in biotechnology, including DNA replication, protein synthesis and the pharmacist’s role in biotechnology, criteria for regulatory approval for biotechnology drugs, technology in genetic engineering and its application to pharmacy and tissue culture. Students should also be exposed to methods in producing commercial products using fermentation biotechnology.
Pharmacology IV:
The course deals with the study of chemotherapeutic agents including antimicrobial drugs and anticancer, their classification, pharmacological actions, mechanism of actions, efficacy, potency, side effects, drug interactions, clinical uses, and their pharmacokinetic properties. The course is aim to enable the student to understand the pharmacology of drugs plan provide efficient pharmacotherapy.
Pharmacognosy III:
The course provides detailed study on the major active phytochemical groups, their definition, physicochemical nature, biological sources, the most common drugs related to the group and their chemical structures, therapeutic and pharmaceutical applications, identification and isolation. These groups include, glycosides, alkaloids, volatile oils, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, steroids, terpenes, and the miscellaneous group as well as the study of phytochemical methods as extraction and analysis techniques. The course is aim to enable the students to comperhensively know and apply the phytochemistry clinically and technically.
Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics II:
This course will introduce students to the basic concepts of pharmacokinetics with a special emphasis on the different pharmacokinetic models. Absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of drugs and calculations of pharmacokinetic parameters of these processes will be discussed. The principle of clinical pharmacokinetics is also introduced in order to be able to formulate or modify drug dose-regimens according to the need of patients. The course is aim to enable the students to comperhensively know and apply the pharmacokinetic concepts clinically and technically.
Pharmaceutics IV:
This course is deals with the study of stability of drugs and drug products regarding the definition of stability, types of stability, factors affecting stability and techniques of enhancing stability, as well as the study of packaging techniques. The course also includes the study of modified release dosage forms; their mechanism, types and techniques used in manufacture. The course is aim to enable the students to comperhensively know and apply the studied techniques in manufacture and clinically.
Pharmacotherapy III:
This course will enable the pharmacy student to study drugs affecting central nervous system (CNS) and drugs affecting endocrine glands disorders; their design the pharmactherapeutic plan, diseases pathophysiology, etiology, clinical presentations of a clinical case, rationale drug use, self-medication, alternative therapies, patient compliance, unnecessary drug therapy, and monitoring of efficacy and safety. The course is aim to enable the student to design the pharmacotherapy plan which provide efficient pharmaceutical care.
Medicinal Chemistry IV:
The course deals with the study of chemical structures, chemical characteristics, synthesis, structure activity relationship (SAR), and metabolism of drugs affecting central nervous system (CNS) and chemotherapeutic drugs which includes antimicrobials and anticancer drugs. The course is aim to enable the student to apply the medicinally related chemical characteristics clinically and technically.
Hospital Pharmacy:
This course is an introductory course to the pharmacy practice in the hospital setting. It includes organizational structure of the hospital pharmacy and its relation to other departments, different drug distribution system in hospitals, hospital formulary, drug store management and inventory control, parenteral admixture, practice standards and pharmacy therapeutics committee. The course is aim to enable the students to efficiently practice the hospital pharmacy as pharmacy practice site.
Pharmaceutical Administration and Marketing:
The course deals with definitions, concept and evolution of management, nature and scope of management, function and its environment, functions of manager. The course also provides understanding of the fundamental aspects of pharmaceutical marketing and promotional activities in the healthcare sector. Point out the relationship between marketing and finance and developing good selling and negotiation skills. The course is aim to enable the students to efficiently practice the management and marketing as pharmacy practice sites.
First Aid:
This course covers a fundamental knowledge about emergency first aid, which provide basic medical care someone experiencing a sudden injury or illness which consists of the initial support might help them survive until professional help arrives, health and environment, pollution, food and water hygiene are also studied in this course. The course is aim to enable the students to efficiently apply the first aid techniques and methods as medical staff.
Toxicology I:
The course deals with the study of the general principles of toxicology which enable the students to understand comprehensively the toxicity of drug and chemicals, the course include study of drugs as toxins, toxikinetics of drugs and poisons, mechanisms of toxicity of drugs and poisons, the various prevention and management methods of poisoning.
Pharmacotherapy IV:
This course will enable the pharmacy student to study the antimicrobial agents which include antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and drugs for parasitic infections as well as the study of anticancer drugs regarding their design the pharmactherapeutic plan, diseases pathophysiology, etiology, clinical presentations of a clinical case, rationale drug use, self-medication, alternative therapies, patient compliance, unnecessary drug therapy, and monitoring of efficacy and the safety. The course is aim to enable the student to design the pharmacotherapy plan which provide efficient pharmaceutical care.
Toxicology II:
The course includes study of drugs as toxicity, toxikinetics, toxic dose, mechanisms of toxicity, the prevention and management methods of the following drugs groups; narcotics, sedatives and hypnotics, antipsychotics, cholinergic and anticholinergic drugs, adrenergic and antiadrenergic drugs, antiepileptic, cardiovascular drugs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and heavy metals. The course is aim to enable the students to act efficiently with toxicity of drugs as prevention and treatment.
Pharmaceutical Care:
This course aims to provide the students with the fundamental aspects of pharmaceutical care and its process and plans. It focuses on roles of pharmacists and patients, medication review, patient interview and communication as well as professional communication and drug related problems and their roles in of pharmaceutical care. The course enable the students to efficiently apply the pharmaceutical care principles.
Pharmacy Laws and Ethics:
This course provides the students the knowledge basics of pharmacy laws and understanding of ethics related to pharmacy. The course examines the laws that impact the practice of pharmacy, while emphasizing the legal and ethical principles applied by pharmacists in their daily decision-making. Students will learn the governmental framework within which pharmacy is practiced, as well as acquire an understanding of the laws, regulations, and the ethical responsibilities applicable to pharmacists so that they will be able to protect the public and ensure patients’ well-being. The course enable the students to efficiently apply the pharmacy laws and ethics.
Community Pharmacy:
This course is an introductory course to the pharmacy practice in the community pharmacy. It includes community pharmaceutical services, role and responsibilities of community pharmacist, communication skills, prescription processing, OTC drugs, prescription drugs, as well as the study of symptoms management of some common diseases as GIT, respiratory, skin disorders and other miscellaneous disorders. The course is aim to enable the students to efficiently practice the community pharmacy as pharmacy practice sites.
Drug Information and Literature Evaluation:
This course explores the fundamental aspects of drug information. It is designed as an introductory course to teach the student the basic principles of drug information pertaining to retrieval, evaluation and communication skills. In addition, the course should help students not only to understand the types of drug information available but also what sources of information are appropriate to use in a variety of situations. The course is aim to enable the students to select properly the drug informations.
Research Methodology and Biostatistics:
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the essentials of research in pharmacy and other health-related fields. It describes and explains the steps of the research process which consist of introduction to the pharmacy Research, ethics of research, approach to nursing research, proposal steps, problem (topic) identification, literature review, styles of references writing, formulation of objectives and hypothesis, research materials and methods and writing of proposal report and text report of the research. The course is aim to enable the student search efficently and correctly.
Clinical Pharmacy:
This course covers the basic concepts of clinical pharmacy as the definition of clinical pharmacy, scopes and general guidelines of clinical pharmacy practice, roles and responsibilities of clinical pharmacist, dosage regimen design, dose adjusting in patients with hepatic impairment, renal impairment, hemodialysis. The course also covers the drug interactions, medication errors and Pharmacovigilance. The course is aim to enable the students to efficiently practice the clinical pharmacy as pharmacy practice sites.
Surgery:
A supervised four experiential training weeks in Surgery department. During this course (clinical rotation), students will perform various activities such as attending the clinical rounds, discussing clinical cases, educating patients and interacting with other healthcare providers. During their training students will apply their knowledge in therapeutic areas with practical patients’ cases. In this course, students will be trained in surgery departments of hospitals on solving therapy-related problems and having an effective communication with other healthcare providers and patients. This course enables the students to act clinically in efficient and proper manner.
Pediatrics:
This course includes various activities such as attending morning rounds, other clinical rounds, and discussing clinical cases based on daily follow-up and monitoring, and detailed evaluation of the pharmactherapeutic of their assigned patients in the department. The goal is to improve students’ practical clinical skills that would enhance the positive contribution of clinical pharmacists in medical care at trained in pediatric departments of hospitals. This course enables the students to act clinically in efficient and proper manner.
Critical Care:
This includes various activities such as attending morning rounds, other clinical rounds, and discussing clinical cases based on daily follow-up and monitoring, and detailed evaluation of the pharmactherapeutic of their assigned patients in the sections of critical care of hospitals. The goal is to improve students’ practical clinical skills that would enhance the positive contribution of clinical pharmacists in medical care at the hospital. This course enables the students to act clinically in efficient and proper manner.
Internal Medicine I:
A supervised four experiential training weeks in internal medicinal department. During this course (clinical rotation) students will perform various activities such as attending the clinical rounds, discussing clinical cases, educating patients and interacting with other healthcare providers. During their training in internal medicine departments of hospitals, students will apply their knowledge in therapeutic areas with practical patients’ cases. In this course, students will be trained on solving therapy-related problems and having an effective communication with other healthcare providers and patients. This course enables the students to act clinically in efficient and proper manner.
Tumors and Malignant Diseases:
Four experiential training weeks in an oncology department. This includes various activities such as attending morning rounds, other clinical rounds, and discussing clinical cases based on daily follow-up and monitoring, and detailed evaluation of the pharmactherapeutic of their assigned patients in the department of tumors of hospitals. The goal is to improve students’ practical clinical skills that would enhance the positive contribution of clinical pharmacists in medical care at the hospital. This course enables the students to act clinically in efficient and proper manner.
Obstetrics and Gynecology:
Four experiential training weeks in a gynecology department. This includes various activities such as attending morning rounds, other clinical rounds, and discussing clinical cases based on daily follow-up and monitoring, and detailed evaluation of the pharmactherapeutic of their assigned patients in the department. The goal is to improve i.e. students’ practical clinical skills that would enhance the positive contribution of clinical pharmacists in medical care at the hospital. This course enables the students to act clinically in efficient and proper manner.
Internal Medicine II:
Four experiential training weeks in an internal medicine department. This includes various activities such as attending morning rounds, other clinical rounds, and discussing clinical cases based on daily follow-up and monitoring, and detailed evaluation of the pharmactherapeutic of their assigned patients in the department. The goal is to improve i.e. students’ practical clinical skills that would enhance the positive contribution of clinical pharmacists in medical care at the hospital. This course enables the students to act clinically in efficient and proper manner.
Cardiovascvular Diseases:
This course consists of 4 weeks of hands-on training in various cardiovascular units. The training includes activities such as inpatients’ follow-up and monitoring, attending the morning patient rounds, other periodical clinical rounds, discussing clinical cases and detailed evaluation of the pharmacotherapy as well as medication counseling for patients in the department. This course enables the students to act clinically in efficient and proper manner.
Graduation Project
This course constitutes the BSc graduation project. The graduation project enables the students to plan and implement their work using pharmaceutical skills that have been learned during their prescribed educational program. In this course, the student is expected to follow up what has been performed in research methodology and biostatistics course under the supervision of one of the department members. The course covers writing the proposal, designing the experiment, data and samples collection, perform the experiment, statistical analysis. The student will have weekly group meeting with their supervisor to discuss their progress and any problems being encountered. At the end of the semester, students are asked to write a report and make an oral presentation with the presence of faculty members as referees and college students.
