Hadhramout University Student Training Center will organize a specialized scientific seminar tomorrow entitled “Cybercrimes in the Era of Digital Transformation: A Reading of the Local Reality and Future Approaches to Confrontation,” under the patronage of the University President, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Khanbash. The seminar is being held as part of the activities of the Information Technology and Digital Payment Exhibition hosted by the university.
The seminar is based on the findings of a field study conducted by Prof. Dr. Nazeeha Mohammed Ali Al‑Aidaroos, Professor of Data Security and Director of the Student Training Center. The study surveyed 427 residents of Al‑Mukalla City and examined patterns of exposure to cybercrimes, factors contributing to their spread, levels of awareness and reporting, and the associated psychological and social impacts. The study also presents practical recommendations for prevention and response, providing a data-driven analysis grounded in the local community rather than a purely theoretical discussion.
A second major component of the seminar will be a panel discussion moderated by media professional Ayman Bahameed, featuring a distinguished group of specialists, including:
- First Lieutenant Mohammed Hussein Bahyan, Director of Al‑Mukalla Police Station and Head of the Electronic Blackmail Unit
- Judge Radwan Salem Lakmah, Member of the Governorate’s Appellate Prosecution Office
- Lawyer Sami Anis Al‑Kathiri, Doctoral Researcher and Legal Consultant specializing in cybercrime
- Dr. Omar Mubarak Bamayyar, Senior Consultant in Clinical Psychotherapy
The panel aims to examine the study’s findings from academic, judicial, security, legal, and psychological perspectives, to develop an integrated vision for addressing cybersecurity challenges.
The seminar will address several key topics, including the current landscape of cyber threats, modern methods of fraud and cyber intrusion, legal and technical mechanisms for strengthening cybersecurity, and the role of community awareness in protecting individuals and institutions amid rapid digital transformation.
The Student Training Center has invited students, researchers, and interested participants to attend and benefit from the seminar’s outcomes, as part of the university’s efforts to raise awareness of digital risks and highlight successful approaches to combating cybercrimes, which have become a growing challenge at both local and global levels.
