The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Hadhramout University concluded a specialized training workshop yesterday, entitled “Effective Learning Strategies and Student Assessment in Medical Education,” which was organized by the University’s Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center over several days.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Salem Bamsaoud, and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Saleh Awad Bahoul.
The workshop aimed to enhance teaching and learning practices in medical education in line with international quality standards by strengthening faculty members’ competencies in active learning methodologies and modern student assessment approaches. It also focused on aligning educational outcomes with quality assurance requirements and national and international academic accreditation standards.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Bahoul emphasized that the workshop forms part of the faculty’s strategic plan for the continuous professional development of its academic staff. He noted that investing in faculty development is fundamental to improving the quality of medical education and represents a key step toward achieving both national and international academic accreditation.
Recognition of a World Health Organization Expert
During the closing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Sadiq Al-Jundi, an expert in academic accreditation and strategic planning with the World Health Organization (WHO), was honored in recognition of his distinguished scientific and advisory contributions to the faculty.
The recognition acknowledged his role in reviewing the Self-Study Report for the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Program, providing independent professional evaluations, and supporting the development of institutional capacity-building initiatives. His expertise has made a valuable contribution to advancing quality assurance and academic accreditation efforts within both the faculty and Hadhramout University.
Participants Highlight the Importance of Continuing Professional Development
The workshop was attended by vice deans, heads of academic departments, faculty members and their assistants, as well as staff from the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center.
At its conclusion, participants praised the workshop’s high academic standards and practical value, emphasizing the importance of continuing such professional development programs to modernize teaching practices, enhance graduates’ competencies, and better prepare future physicians to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare sector and the labor market at both the national and regional levels.
